Sometimes a girl’s just gotta draw her favorite characters in a mermaid(merman?) AU instead of doing something, you know, productive. I feel like we see a lot of the Fairy Tail girls drawn as mermaids, but never the boys…
Headcanon: Lucy Heartfilia is a marine biologist who discovered a merman trapped in a discarded fishers net when scuba diving one day. Because he’s of the orca variety, the merman is in danger of drowning, so despite their notoriously aggressive nature, she cuts him free and drags him to the surface. He recovers quickly and Lucy hurries to her boat and leaves on the off chance the merman decides to attack.
The next day, she goes diving again, seeing as her impromptu rescue the day before interrupted her work. To her surprise, when she surfaces near a rocky outcropping…someone is waiting for her. Unfortunately, merpeople and humans speak completely different languages, so it takes a bit of charades for him to make her understand that he brought her a rare shell as a thank you. Things get fluffy and cute from there when he keeps showing up to shadow her while she works, lol.
So yeah…this was supposed to just be a sketch but I wound up cleaning it up a bit and slapping some color on >__> I decided that mer!Natsu would wear a bit of fishnet for a scarf instead of an actual scarf in this canon, hehe.
Translation of the text is: “Oh hey, there you are!“
