Description

Shou was nervous. After taking the time to recover, both physically and mentally, he was ordered back to the.. Nook, was it?
He was honestly grateful, being in that large house with those two wyngrew was exhausting. Constant arguments, constant nitpicking, constantly being scolded for things Atticus did. He wasn't Atticus, he was Shou.
But when he informed his 'parents' they only sighed and asked with irritation 'Another play identity?'.
How Atticus put up with them is truly something Shou will never understand.

The head maid told him that Atticus used to go to the Nook every single day for schooling, but since he left early the last time and was apparently abusing his time there, Shou was only allowed to be there for 3 days of the week. The rest would be spent getting tutored at the mansion, consistently until his parents arrived home or decided he was done for the day. It sounded beyond boring, but he decided speaking against it may get him trapped in that stupid place for more days.
He was more interested in learning about the Nook, since he had no clue what it held.
She told him it was an orphanage of sorts, eggs or wynglings would be dropped off there to be taken care of by the hatchery mother. Though, since a schooling system was implemented, and adults usually are busy working for most of the day, its also some sort of daycare.
It sounded... Colorful. If that made any sense...
What made Shou so nervous to be there, however, was the fact that Atticus had been there before him. From what he's heard others say about the wyngling, he was so arrogant and freely spoke of himself constantly to other wynglings. If that were true, then that would mean more people calling and comparing him to Atticus. Not counting any wynglings Atticus might have angered from his snobby personality and rude remarks, he wouldn't be surprised if he got assaulted while there.

...

Walking in was easy, the hatchery mother, Alma, was waiting for him by the door. She was sent a letter regarding his loss of memory and reminded him of the rules set in place for the Nook, as well the time he was supposed to leave when class was over. Boring, again.
He thanked her and decided to walk around to avoid thinking about the surprised look she gave him. Goodness, how rude was Atticus? Were the only adults he was respectful towards were his parents? More like a useless doormat.

Anyways, no one seemed to recognize him, or even look towards him at the moment. That was good, maybe he won't have to deal with others! If Shou could just go find a quiet spot until class started, without any other children, and maybe take a nap-

SMACK!!

"Atticus! I'm talking to you, what are you, deaf?!"
Shou internally groaned as he sat himself down, rubbing the back of his head as the voice continued to berate him.
"You disappear for weeks without a word or explanation and you come back just to ignore me? What were you doing, stupid prince?" The nickname was weird, he wasn't aware people called Atticus that. Shou looked to the side, a dark gray wyngling with glasses was scowling at him, wielding a book that possibly gave him a bump.
"That book hurt... why'd you have to hit me so hard?" That was all Shou could bring himself to whimper.
The wyngling huffed, prodding his back with the spine. "You were ignoring me- Did your ears stop working while you were gone or something?" She took a moment to actually look at him, eyes calculating behind the frames of her glasses. They suddenly took a softer tone. It looked uncomfortable
"Actually... Are you okay?" She set down her weapon and looked back at him. "You really were gone for a long time and.." Her eyes darted to the scar along his left arm. "You look terrible."
So nice, way to soften those words.
Shou stopped rubbing at the back of his head and let out a sigh. This is why he hoped no one would recognize him, he didn't want to explain his accident, and this was even worse! He didn't expect Atticus to have somehow made friends! Now he has to break it to them that their friend was an idiot who got caught in a thunderstorm!
He was not prepared to talk nicely about Atticus.
But he'll try.
"I guess you knew me before?" He felt like throwing up. "I.. need to explain something to you."

...

They were sitting in a quiet corner of the Nook. It was one of the many rooms, but he believes this one was specifically for reading, as tiny shelves of books surrounded the walls in big clusters. Was he ever in here before?

"So you lost your memories?"
Shou jumped slightly, looking up at the previously silent wyngling. She, Naveah, had led him here so he could explain himself. Throughout the entire story she was silent, staring contemplatively at the ground or his scar, barely giving him any sort of sign of listening besides the shifts of emotion in her eyes. Once he was done, she merely sat there, thinking at the wall in front of them.
Now she was staring directly in his eyes.
He looked at his paws.
"Yeah." He felt guilty for some reason, but he didn't know why. Maybe because Atticus let her down.
"Is there any way, or chance you can get them back?" Her eyes were piercing.
Shou turned further away from her.

Wasn't he enough?
"No... They said I may have feelings of familiarity with places I've been or people I meet but.. I'll never remember exactly. I'll never be the same."
A soft 'oh' was all that was uttered before there was another pause of silence.
This is exactly why he didn't want to talk or explain this to gro who knew Atticus. They'd always get quiet, listening, asking questions. Always the same questions, always asking if Atticus would return, if it was ever possible. The answer always resulting in a heavy silence and pitying eyes, a weird sadness in them. Grief.
Atticus wasn't the worst wyngling, but he wasn't the greatest. He was stuck-up, he was rude, he'd push and insult everyone without a second thought.
So why did they miss him? Why did they always ask for him back?
Wasn't Shou enough?
Why wasn't he enough for them?

"Do you want to remember?" Shou blinked at the question, surprise bubbling in him. What? "Being Atticus. Do you want to remember being him?"

No one had asked him that yet.
Did he want to remember being Atticus? Did he actually want those memories that aren't his?
Aren't who he is now?

For some reason 'mother' came to mind.

"...No," He grimaced, hunching slightly. "I don't... think Atticus was happy... I don't want to be that. I.. want to be happy."
He saw Naveah turn her gaze away from him in his periphery, taking the same hunched position as him. Well... He guesses that's as good as someone takes their friend being gone.
Maybe he should leave to not cause her more pain, she really helped him out but-

"I'll miss Atticus,"

Shou looked back to her in surprise, as well confusion. He's never heard anyone say that out loud before when it came to Atticus never coming back. He felt a weird mix of offense and... warmth.
She looked at him, eyes removed of pity and filled instead with.. hesitant friendliness.

"but I'm interested in finding out what kind of person you are, Shou."
