tw abuse, transphobia
"-I can't believe you!"
The voice was loud, it hurt his ears. Who was shouting nearby?
He blinked rapidly in confusion, his sight staying in darkness.
Why was..?
"I have to do this, for the good of our family! You must understand!"
His mother's voice instinctively made him flinch, his movement revealing the crack of light from under the door of his study. Right.
He had been locked in here. He passed out eventually, he guessed..
His face still felt damp.
"No, you must understand!" Something made harsh contact with a nearby wall. "This kind of treatment, this- this abuse is exactly why my family fell apart! I can't let you do the same thing he did!"
Oh, that was father shouting.. He's willingly speaking about his family?
Atticus pulled himself closer to the door, ear resting on it so he could hear his parents better. It stung slightly.
"Oh, so now you finally speak of your broken family?!" He could hear a shuffle. "Your father did everything right!"
If he did this, Atticus couldn't exactly agree.
"Your father was right to hide and correct that disgusting brother of yours! As well as your other siblings!"
Oh, Atticus would love to meet this uncle of his.
They can compare injury.
"My father was nothing of the sort! He tore my family, my siblings, apart from each other. He put us against each other and showed no remorse or sympathy for his own children as they suffered!" Father's really getting upset here. "While I don't- agree with the way my siblings and child think and are, they don't deserve this kind of treatment!"
Heavy footsteps started, the sounded like they were close to the door. Atticus felt himself begin to wake up fully, sluggishly raising his arm to try and get the door open. his paw slapped against it and he couldn't bring himself to move any further.
The footsteps were so close before he heard a noise of anger and shuffling, the steps stopping.
"No! She is still being punished for shouting at me!"
Of course, mother is still not going to let me out..
Actually, how long had he been in this room at this point? He must've missed dinner.
"Shouting- Kids shout! They yell and complain!" Atticus has heard more shouting and complaining from his parents than anyone else, but he won't bring that up. "She- He- Whatever! I won't let you lock my child in some room because you got your feelings hurt!"
Sweet, he said 'whatever'.... I wish they would open the door and stop yelling at each other.
"This is more than that!"
"No it isn't, you're just being the same petty gro you've always been!-"
"That is rich coming from you, you haven't even talked to your parents or siblings in years!-"
Atticus whimpered and pressed his ear into his arm instead of the door, there was nothing left to listen to when they started arguing like that.
Warm tears restarted their trip down his face and the most Atticus could do is sniffle pathetically. This was humiliating, why was he, successor of the biggest jeweler company, snivelling at the bottom of a locked door like a weak child? He wasn't weak, he was raised to be strong, he was taught to take nothing from nobody. He taught himself to showcase this to others, to show how much stronger and better he was compared to everyone else. Atticus Shou doesn't take this kind of treatment. Atticus is not somebody who should be weeping to the sound of his screaming parents.
Then why was he?
Was Atticus just doomed to be unhappy? To be pathetic?
The stupid maid was right, Atticus was a joke. Someone who was not accepted by his own parents and thrown around, and decided the best way to fix his pain was to go around and insult other wynglings in the same position. It really was ironic. Painfully so.
All those wynglings in the Nook he insulted and brought down.. Was he really any better than them? Was he the worst of them?
He imagined what they would think of him, sprawled on the floor crying while measly pawing at his only escape of this torturous darkness.
A distant memory started to flicker in his mind at that thought... When he first arrived at the Nook.
He was.. talking with Cynda, yes, his parents had just found him and told him they were leaving.
He began to follow them when he turned and saw Cynda trying to bait a purple, ragged looking wyngling into talking to him. Now that Atticus was thinking more of him... He looked..
Piercing cold, blue eyes shifting their attention towards him, staring.
... Sad.
The wyngling had looked so sad. Curled up into himself, face pressed against the floor as he merely took Cynda's berating.
The only difference between him and that wyngling in the Nook is that.. Maybe Atticus deserves this.
He wasn't always the greatest, he has a record of being rude, snobby, and generally irritating. Even Naveah tells him this, one of the few people he considered a...
Atticus wants to be let out. He wishes his parents would stop arguing and shouting and just open the door.
Atticus wishes he could have freedom.
But freedom is not what Atticus gets to have.
A voice, different from his parents, calls out in alarm.
A storm has started.
so close
