Description

Tony didn't know what to write on the small paper that was given to him with the lantern.
The plague was going away now, or at least, gro weren't going away from it anymore. A little too late honestly but... It's good that it won't be hurting anymore wyngrew. The wards were being removed, many taken to their families or somewhere to wait out the disappearance of the sickness. He wanted to return home too, see if his family was okay and if they were all still there, but he spotted some wyngrew carrying weird orange things to the huge lake next to town and he got curious. When he asked Dave about it he said they were lanterns, that grew were to set them off in rememberance of those who left.

Obviously, Tony had to go and set off a lantern.
But he was stuck on the paper.

That old green gro said they were supposed to write the name of those who were to be remembered on the paper before sticking it to the lantern and lighting it, but he didn't know any names. Also, so many had left the tent, if he did find out their names, how was he going to write them all down on the tiny piece of paper? He shouldn't have rushed this....
..tap tap tap tap...
"They didn't tell you their name?"
Dave spoke up from his left side, he had been holding the lantern for him until they could tie it with the paper. He also found a runeboo, they were a little more friendly than Vigil was when he first met them. Dave was probably getting bothered by his tapping. He looked from the charcoal pencil he was given to the lake in front of them. A bunch of other lanterns were already set off, their orange light looked really nice on the blue of the water. So many were already up in the air, and there was still more to be sent off.
"No..." The nice, brown wyngro in his tent. "They weren't even able to talk.." He remembered the one sided conversation he had with them, where he asked them if they wanted him to get somebody to help them with their nasty coughs. They shook their head, Tony could barely hear the rough 'No, it's fine' through all the liquid spilling from their mouth and into their claws. Then the coughs started up again. "They coughed so much..." It kept going, they got worse, they were louder. "..It wouldn't stop..." Until they did.
Vigil let a soft kwoo besides him, snapping him out of the terrible memory before it could get worse. He sent the boo a grateful look and looked back to the paper. He really didn't want to cry in front of Dave again, his friend had already done so much for him.
"Well..." Dave started slowly as Tony set down the paper and started to write. He didn't have a name, but he did know what to put down now. "It's cool that you're going to honor them anyways." Oh. He didn't know how to feel about that.
Tony was sure setting off a lantern wasn't enough, he didn't even have an exact name to put down that definitely wasn't enough.
Honor would've been him taking their place. They could've been here, maybe with their family. They would be happy, they would be breathing. They wouldn't have to choke anymore.
He quietly tied the paper to one of the branches of the lantern, unreacting as Vigil slipped close and lit the fire and his friend released it into the air. They all turned up to watch it float up with the rest just like it, Vigil had returned to his spot next to Tony and pressed up against his side in a sign of comfort.
"right...." He agreed softly, deciding not to voice his doubts to Dave.
This was all he could do.

I'm glad he survived, but sadly, he won't be returning back to his family,
I wish to help him.
