Day 23
It has been a while, hasn’t it? Well, that is because it is the first time in ages since I have been able to sit down and not freeze my butt off!! Last time I wrote in here was to document the Mauta attack and a lot has happened since then.
Since I had found Slushie I thought they were following me but I am starting to think I am following them. We came to the very edge of the Ice Fields to see an ocean dotted with iceberg and in the far distance I saw the other islands peppering on the horizon. Slushie started to yip and trill happily which was joined by other calling out in reply, under the snow drifts and ice caves more Artic Felonapes appeared and joined Slushie in their singing. I would have found this adorable if I was not panicking that they would attract the attention of a Mauta.
And that is when I saw one of the icebergs move. I grabbed Slushie and backed away from the edge of the ice but the others did not seem to sense the danger in fact some of them gave me a look that would imply that they must see me as an idiot. As the iceberg grew closer and it became more obvious that it was going against the tide of the ocean to be so the other Felonapes got more excited and started to bounce in joy. I crept ever closer with Slushie tight in my arms who did not wiggle and became as floppy as a Rag Doll Cat, pretty much chill and happy to go along with whatever I had to do to be at ease with this whole thing. As I peered into the water, I saw long white fur drifting in the water under the iceberg and caught sight of a large blue fin, two big paws rose from the water grabbing the ice edge and heaved up a giant Artic Felonape!
Slushie and their friends must be their babies! They chirped and trilled happily as one by one they leapt onto the iceberg as it rested against the ice edge, Slushie looked up at me yipping and tapping my arm with their flippers. I stepped closer to the ever-patient Mama Slushie who was waiting for me. This was my only way off this island but there was no guarantee of a way back.
A part of me knows I should go back it has already been two weeks already, but call me crazy I could not shake the feeling that I needed to go further and so… I stepped onto the iceberg.
I was so f**king cold!!! I had to empty my backpack of clothes and wear them all at once, I looked and felt like a sumo wrestler but it kept me from freezing to death, the ocean wind stung like needles and the only windbreakers where the ice on Mama Slushie which did not help matter. I dare not risk starting a fire in case I hurt her.
Thankfully Slushie and their friends tried to help by making a giant snuggle puddle with me in the centre. After a few days the weather got warmer and we got closer to the first island which had a few sandbars in between, some of which had began to move towards us. A low loud hum that I more felt in my bones than heard with my ears, like the deep bass at a concert sounded around me, the vibrations caused the ice around me to chime and sing like crystal glass. The sandbar responded in kind with a sound that made the water tremble and dance causing fish to dart away and the avian creatures that were resting on its back to leap into the sky. Slushie nudged at me towards the edge of Mama Slushie’s ice shell and I could see that a coral reef had taken root around this unknown creature and swimming about the seaweed and kelp were another type of Felonape!
It seemed like I was in a mother’s meeting and could only imagine what they were talking about but I theorise that the consensus was “One of my kids picked up a weird pet but it does not seem to swim well and does not like the cold. Want to take it off my paws?”
Judging by how Mama Slushie dove down slightly so that I was on level with the new Mama Felonape I am guessing they had agreed to the idea.
