Who knew Microsoft publisher would be such a handy tool when assembling dragon scales?I made my final scale templates today with the assistance of Sketchbook's symmetry tool. I made a slight modification of my last scale design because the first attempt actually ended up being a failure. While the scales adhered just fine to the fleece, the hot glue didn't like the flex bond and the scales ended up peeling away from each other and leaving only the little bit where the scales touched the fabric secure.
So with this new design, the "tail" on these scales will be fully glued down to the fleece with the high-temp hot glue and the scales will lay on top of one another. This design will be much more secure AND flexible! If nothing major comes up, I should have some prototypes painted and glued onto some test fabric by the end of this weekend.
These scales will be slightly keeled meaning they will have a convex curve running lengthwise down the scale. They will be heat-formed to hold this shape so they will always appear much bulkier than they seem. Thin EVA foam can be transformed into thick armored scales with just a little heat and precise forming. Only thing that stinks about this is that I have to do this for roughly 200 of these little guys :'D
