Description This is my first tutorial, which I am quite pleased with. It's a beginner's tutorial, and is the ground work for creating logos and interfaces like the ones used for the Cingular and Mac logos.

Feedback would be much appreciated as this is my first. If anyone has any requests for tutorials, or brush sets (there is one that coordinates to this one) please feel free to note me

i would suggest never merging layers as you may wish to edit them later on, after all if you saeve as a jpg its gonig to be merged anyways and you can keep the psd if you want ot do little changes for mutliple uses type of thing, very good tutorial tohugh!

In the case of this tutorial merging certain layers is necessary, you are unable to achieve the linear dodge on the lower half of the sphere without merging. I agree in most cases it is good to keep a .psd file on hand for changes, but that is the beauty of the duplicate image option

Thanks so much. I 'm glad it was helpful for you. I was a bit concerned that I didn't explain things well enough. There will surely be more coming!

Nice tutorial, gel buttons, text, and all that sort of stuff is alot of fun but can be very frustrating to work with if you don't know any of the basics

Thank you.
I was hoping that I explained the menus well enough, but after all was said and done I realized that an inexperienced PS user may have problems. I'm currently working on some basic PS tutorials.

Hmmm, yeah menus. Looking back at it some people new to PS could probably get lost rather quickly, that and all the short cuts can also hurt a person's head right off the bat (they hurt me). But it's tough to make a tutorial that goes through a project and teaches much about the menus at the same time.

Anyway, look forward to seeing any more tuts you do

Thank you I came across a tutorial awhile back outlining gel spheres, but it was so hard to follow I ended up teaching myself anyway. I was procrastinating with work last night (I'm very good at that) and decided to try my hand at a tutorial.
