Description
DEMOICHTYOSPINUS GENORAPTOR"Demon Spiny Fish Thief of Gene"
Few know this, but among the ranks of the demon host that accompanied Bemriath in the mortal world there were two more commander dinosaur beasts. One of them was Levias.
Levias was a titanic beast, wose upper body had the form of a spinosaurus and the lower the one of an octopus. She was the main sorcerer of that demon army, and her powers over mystical arts were huge.
She was slain, but she had one last trick up her sleeves. Once she exuded her last breath, her body erupted in a colossal explosion of black blood and slimy organs. Nearly all the enemies in the field were touched by this substance, who however vanished quickly. The brave soldiers then, humanoids of various races, had gone home happily. The next day, they woke up with high fever and a deep sensation of cold, their skin starting to show grey spots. They all died after another day. They were buried, but after 24 hours the dead rised from their graves, showing their mutations: they had become huge, crocodile-like creatures. The Demoichthyospinuses, spawn of Levias, were born.
Demoichtyospinuses, often called "Amalgaspinuses", are aberrant and horrorific creatures born from the blood of the demon beast Levias. They roughly rensembles spinosaurid dinosaurs with tentacles, but they're far more than that. They're intelligent and cunning, and utterly dangerous. They're guided by an insensate desire to grow bigger and more powerful, and they can do so, by taking other beings and assimilating them. Doing so, they gather biomass and can grow in mass and power. Legends says that Levias did this on purpose, so that one day one of her spawn could grow so much to eventually reforming her.
All the Demoichthyospinuses got the following abilities:
Land Fish- Amalgospinuses are amphibious, and can live both on earth and in water. They usually inherit lungs from their hosts, already possessing gills;
Deep Fish Teeth- Amalgaspinus's teeth are long and needle-like, able to land nasty bites;
Regeneration- Amalgaspinuses can regenerate even monstrous wounds within minutes, and are not really sensible to pain. They can regenerate even from a single cell, even if so they go back to their 1° stage;
Infection- Each strike of the creature that successfully penetrates skin contaminates the foe with Levias's curse, dooming it to become another Amalgaspinus within 2 days;
Biomass Absorption- Amalgaspinus have the ability to absorb any other lifeform, thus gaining biomass for themselves. Absorption takes place in two ways: swallowing the creature it wants to absorb, or making direct contact with it for at least 30 minutes. After absorption, the Amalgaspino add the prey's biomass to its own, and also gain its magical and some physical abilities, as well as its memories. Often, their skin is covered in the faces of their prey, still alive, who screams and moans in pain and horror;
Evolution- Once it gathers enought biomass, an Amalgaspinus withstands a new, terrifying mutation, growing in size and power. This transformation takes place one a stage 1 evolves to 2, and when stage 2 goes 3. Stages 3, once gathered enought biomass, do not evolve further, but rather they divide in two, thus creating another stage 3, but losing much of their power. Most can't withstand this loss, and both parts regress back to 2° or even 1° stage;
Stored Abilities- Amalgaspinuses store inside their body most of the powers the creatures they absorbed possessed, and can use them freely. They can't, however, change their body structure, so some powers, like speed in flight, are useless;
Weaknesses:
Fire- Fire destroys their cells, so Amalgaspinuses keeps well-away from flames;
Parasite- With no creatures to assimilate, being that their nutrition, Amalgaspinuses will likely die of stent;
Audible From Distance- being covered by the faces of their victims, who moans and scream, Amalgaspinuses can't hide successfully or ambush without being heard;
These beasts undergoes three different stages of life, (those represented above are the maximum size a stage can reach before evolving further):
Stage 1 (baryonyx)
This abomination forms when a creature, usually humanoid, is infected by another Amalgaspino. Infection can take place even by a single scratch, even if in this case it takes longer for Levias's blood to take over the host.
Since this horror is such a chaotic and primitive amalgamation of biomass, its body has a hard time getting its basic systems to work, so it often show deformities and visible, black and pulsing veins, as well as a mixed, brown-grey coloration.
Its upper body looks much like a basic spinosaurid's one, except the exxagerated teeth, the little frill and the hands with thumbs. It drags itself on two, leg-like tentacles, flexible and grapping, and on a tentacle-like tail. This breed's the most mindless and bloodthirsty, and is driven by sheer instinct, even if it gains intelligence by absorbing other creatures.
Stage 2 (Suchomimus)
After a 1°stage gathers enought biomass, it evolves into a 2°stage. 2°stages are bigger, more intelligent and more dangerous than 1° stages. They're far more stabile mutations, and do not show many deformations. They differ from 1° stage in size, being two times bigger, as also in conformation: they have bigger snut, long sails on their back, and four leg-tentacles. They also show less black veins, being their bodies genetically more stable.
Stage 3 (Spinosaurus)
The ultimate children of Levias, 3° stages are the most vile of the breeds, created by transformed 2° generations. they're nearly perfectly stable mutations, showing not many black veins. Their skin is sea blue, with light blue frills and sail and six leg-tentacles. This is the most powerful of the Amalgaspinus breeds, having absorbed hundreds of beings. 3° stage are physically powerful, but they rely much more on magical and mental power, their conspicous intelligence giving them the will to csummon and control large amout of magical energies. They also have minor, natural hydrokinesis.

They remind me more of the thing from Deep Rising, really.

Well, in fact...their tentacles can't swallow you whole, but can still grasp you and, slowly, absorb you, so I guess yeah.

To quote Harry Black from the movie Evolution: GREAT GOOGAMOOGA!!!
You have made a strange hybrid of spinosaur, ghoul and pure ever loving insanity!
My hat would be off to you if I hadn't just torn it apart in shock.

Strange? Maybe, but in a good way to my eyes.
lol, then it seems I did a good job. You like what I came up with for their origins?

I think they are awesome, it reminds me of a book series where wizzards can use up their life force to toss a death cruse at someone. They normally use it only when near death.
But that was kinda what was running through my mind.

In fact, that's the kind, though its a bit worse than death. Can you imagine being nothing more than a 3-d tatoo on a body that was once yours and moves around guided by a wicked mind that can also read your thoughts and memories?

I'm better the "mind" of the person is no longer active, completely replaced by the shabling monster.

Not at all, the person is still alive and fully consious, and keeps screaming and moaning in pain and horror. Eventually, the spino can shut their mouths, even if he likes those soft auras of pain.

RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!
Overall, a very impressive evolution chain. I'm surprised they're all the same species, just in different forms, though I did notice they evolve by absorbing biomass. The big one has to be the freakiest, talons down. The little details such as the claws on the ends of the tentacles and the anglerfish lure on the head would make him a feast for the eyes if it weren't so goddamn terrifying.

YEAH!
Thanks I added the claws to not have a too-octified spino, to give the impression of legs. Terrifying? Then, my objective is reached! XD
Whatcha think about the origins I gave them?

I must say the aquatic thing is more logical than you think, really. The oxygen content of spinosaur skeletons is greater than those of other, more terrestrial dinosaurs like tyrannosaurids - more oxygen content means more time in the water. So you did a good job in making them truly aquatic monsters. As for the origins, what a scary way to spawn giant demonic dinosaurs. Levias did have her revenge in the end, after all.
Your demon-dinos make me want to make a set of demons (or angels?) based off pterosaurs now, for the sake of this universe. The Jewish creature Ziz serves as a good basis, and there are so many pterosaurs that I'll have a good air force in no time at all.

Ah, so you have heard about the whole "aquatic spino" crap (the good kind btw). Well, there's swimming dinos for you.
As for Ziz and such... so awesome, he is! I'll remember to whip up as many species of Angelopteryx as I can as soon as I have the time.

Well, I heard about it later, but spino's design kinda screams "water!" to me.
Angelopteryx? that's a cool name! Even if, if you're going to make ptero-demons, I could suggest the name demonopteryx XD
Y'know what, you put me a damn strong craving for doing these ptero-demons. Wanna make them up together? Or again, you could make ptero-angels while I make demons. Deal?

WhiteFireRodan In reply to Crystaldemon93 [2010-09-09 04:05:47 +0000 UTC]
Ptero angels are enough, ptero demons would be overkill. Besides they aren't dinosaurs, different family of prehistoric reptiles XD
But if you want, ptero demons are nice too, so I guess it's a deal: you make a good number of ptero-demons and I make the same number of ptero-angels as balance. Ziz is neutral in your universe at least, so the whole group would therefore be neutral by extension. My suggestions would be to use rhamphorynchids and ornithocheirids for the demons, since it's a lot harder to be angelic, and a lot easier to be demonic, when your beak is full of needle-sharp teeth.

Good idea. I need some angels, but I'm not good at making good guys, my fault X#D.
To be precise, Ziz is one of the titans, so he's a chaotic being that once ruled the universe, and wants to do it again. Him, like all the other Titans, is chaotic neutral.
However, Then, Pactum Pactorum *thunder roaring* Bwahahahaha!

Some other suggestions for angels would be hadrosaurs definitely, and sauropods as guardian beasties. A few prehistoric mammals, like the wolly mammoth, might be nice as angels too for some added variety.

Definetly. As for prehistoric mammals, I thought about most of them as angels, whith some exceptions, but still.
I think you need to know that the main good god in my story is a mammal, while the devil is a reptile.

I see. Of course, that doesn't mean ALL the reptiles are evil - the hadrosaur angels would be a notable exception.

So would I. For the most part my animal kaiju are sort of on the neutral side, save of course for the Virgo one whose lineart I'm working on. Same can be said for all the species we see on Earth, and most of the ones in fiction that do not indicate any preference in any manner.
