So is this just a movie or a side series to my little dumb ass,I mean pony.and even if it is a movie most movies now are just made in to side series anyway, either for toys or because of it being very popular.
Oh,and spike being a dog,not saying it is a bad idea but,let me get this strait,so aparitily dragons can be walking talking side characters,but in the human world they are dogs,and what about the big scary ones are they dogs or are they just bullies.
I agree with PineyCreek,fanfiction comics sure,but a whole series is basically just bulls***.JUST MY OPINION though.

Is anyone else slightly dreading this series? I mean the idea is one thing for a fanfiction, but for a serious studio production I'm actually pretty concerned. Maybe they'll pull it off, but I'm still worried. Go comic though.

So Spike is gonna be a dog. So what? In Equestria, dragons are hostile monsters, so a dragon living in a pony town as an assistant to a pony makes just as much sense as a dog being the assistant to a human girl.
Seriously though, what is the big fuzz about? So just because he is a dog, he is lesser because of that? In my opinion, it is the character that makes a character lesser, and Spike is no lesser character.

So big question why is Spike a dog in this confounded movie? I mean he was never Twilight's pet he was her assistant. I do love the art work it just the movie that I am going to watch but don't look forward to that has me confused

Seeing as he is a dragon, the reason could be the same as Twilight being suddenly human and full-dressed on arrival. Whoever created the mirror made sure it makes the traveller look locals-friendly. And since Spike is not the same species as Twi, the mirror didn't make him a human either. Or maybe the sensors analyzed his comparatively smaller size (and he's a bit smaller than even the CMC) and misinterpreted him as a pet. Or maybe it has a set "morph dragons into dogs" programme.
Although the third option might mean that if you want to use a similar portal to visit Equestria, bringing your pet pal along might not be a good idea... XD
