Description
I feel so blah about this, but I like it. I dunno, I think it's the love hate relationship with my new brushes that has me feeling this way. UHG. Digital feels so staleeee.Anyways, I painted over a pencil drawing I did, which used to be a way I worked like two years ago. I might go back to it.

Wow, that looks so BA... I love how you used the hood like a window through to the character, with there being no gap between the jacket and the flat canvas style background. So cool!

So I actually have a question, when you do a pencil drawing and then submit it to a digital canvas, what happens next? Do you have to retrace the whole picture on the computer or something? Or, what technique do you use for it? I'm desperately curious

I don't retrace, generally i open it up, adjust it a little in levels until I like the value system, enlarge it if i need to. Then I make a new layer on top, drop in my base color (purple in this instance) and set the layer to multiply. I then flatten it, cos I prefer to work on one layer, and I paint the highlights slowly but surely. :>

It;s very interesting, the pencil strokes and the way youve painted over it- it gives it a more personal feel, I think. I've never done it before- I may try it.
I like how her face is so beautifully illuminated here, like holding up a candle to her face.

It's really a fun process, sometimes you can even keep the paper texture in which is nice.

Ooh, new brushes. I was just looking at thes sketch of this on your tumblr. It's gorgeous. I'll forever love your traditional work more. You're way more confident with it and it shows in your traditional pieces.

They sketch is a little wonky, but this might be just as wonky too.

*perks up*
Did someone say new brushes?
I've always admired those that can do pencil drawings and paint over. I've never been able to do so. You genuinely pull it off quite well in my view.

It's kind of hard to do, but I was also taught to acrylic paint over pencil drawings so i kinda channel that when I do it. :>
