She just had a test fire today, and it's been all over Facebook! One step closer to rocketing down the main lines of NS once more. Break-in runs are sure to follow.

Wow, a lot newer than I thought. So I guess it is not a steam engine, but a diesel or diesel-electric?

No, she is a steamer.  The 4-8-4 refers to the locomotive's wheel arrangement: a four-wheeled pilot truck, eight drive wheels, and a four-wheeled trailing truck.

Very interesting. For some reason I was in the idea that they had stopped making steam engines in the 1940s. In any case, she's a stunner!
