Description
Throughout the 90's and the first half of the 2000's,I made several solo trips to Walt Disney World,so I was fortunate enough to experience the now-defunct Tomorrowland attraction ExtraTERRORrestrial Alien Encounter, also known simply as Alien Encounter. I'm telling you,it was fantastic...a spook-show for the science-fiction era.I was also unfortunate enough to see it close...and replaced with Stitch's Great Escape, which I saw...once. I can't even describe my disappointment at this. It was like riding the Haunted Mansion and finding all the lights turned on,everything painted in vomit-enducing day-glo colors and the ghosts replaced with insufferably cute happy little elves. Not since Journey Into Your Imagination With Figment had I seen a worthwhile attraction replaced with insufferable crap.
In the past year, videos on YouTube on the subject have revealed why it closed...and while actor Jeffrey Jones' 2002 arrest for possession of child pornography was probably a factor, the main reason for its closing a year later was the large number of parents who chose to ignore the posted warnings about how scary this show was, then demanded a refund of their park admission on behalf of their supposedly traumatized kids; I imagine it didn't take long for scam artists to take advantage of this.
While I was very much into the Disney Renaissance,I never saw Lilo & Stitch...I think it was all those trailers showing him horning in on scenes from other Disney animated features. I still don't want to see it.

Too bad I didn’t get to see this attraction when it was running
Now it’s a thing of the past
The only way I can see it now is if I had a time machine and travel to a year before 2016 and 2018 before it ran seasonally and closed forever

But some day they might invent time travel
So I can see stitch’s great escape because it closed

This ride might have lasted longer if it was built at Disney Hollywood Studios. Magic Kingdom is the most wholesome of the Disney parks, so I imagine that a lot of parents who saw the warning signs thought to themselves, "It's the Magic Kingdom. How scary can this ride really be? They are really being overcautious." Or, "My kid is so brave/tough, he/she can handle anything." Disney Hollywood Studios has several edgier and scarier attractions like Catastrophe Canyon and the "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show".
Another thing they should have done is maybe have made the warning signs a little larger and more visually distinctive, like this sign for Splash Mountain.

Good points, both. I just hated to see such a great attraction, which I was fortunate enough to experience, get shut down because people can't read a simple warning sign.

I love Alien Encounter but Lilo and Stitch is a really really good film, unfortunately the changeover from AE to the stitch ride was just, awful and completely rushed. Stitch's great escape definitely does NOT represent the film.

Personally, I liked Stitch's Great Escape more than Alien Encounter. Alien Encounter scares you out of your mind the first time you ride it. But it gets real old real fast after repeating it a few times. Stitch's Great Escape was funny, and I liked that.

Since I haven't seen the movie,I can't comment on that...but Alien Encounter was definitely one of the best things the Imagineers ever came up with...a fear-based attraction that included scenes that used not our eyes, but our other senses to thrill us. Not to mention the fact that it was a clever re-purposing of the old Mission To Mars theater. Now,thanks to a bunch of dimwits that couldn't comprehend a clearly stated warning and the subsequent con artists who took advantage of the situation,it's been replaced by a dumbed-down alternative.
Oh....thanks for the !
