Taking a break from the Halloween artwork....From Kurt Busiek's and Alex Ross' comic book series Astro City, the protagonist here in this middle-of-the-story panel is the Silver Agent,who was created to represent,as his name implies,the Silver age of comics (1956 - 1970). The Cold War-era supervillains here,Commissar Hammer and Steel Sickle,were mentioned once in a story but never made an appearance,so here's how I thought they might look.
The uniform of a commissar inspired Hammer's look,and it followed that he'd carry a big,ostentatious hammer with him,meant to intimidate any potential adversaries. As for Steel Sickle,I was inspired by the Marvel Comics villain Titanium Man,and how he was created to be the Soviet response to Iron Man; in this case,it's the Silver Agent that inspired the design,hence his partially uncovered face. His namesake weapon of choice would make the two of them partners,sort of an embodiment of the iconic hammer-and-sickle.
