Description Based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story 'The Masque of the Red Death', this short film was created for my University assessment at the end of 2006 for the University of Technology, Sydney.

(Update, 2021): The view the film remastered in 4K, visit:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2Nq-v…

Since its original submission for my course assessment the film has evolved significantly into something which I hope can be considered no longer just a student film, but something that is festival ready.

Pre production took 5 months, shooting was over 3 days, and post production took 18 months.

Most of the cast and crew donated their time to the project and have done an amazing job.

I am happy to answer any question in regards to the production, but in the meantime, please enjoy the film!

Camera Used: Panasonic P2 HVX-200 @ 720P

I agree it reminds me of sweeney todd but the music reminds me of something else I can't quite put my finger on. Who did the music for you?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Cubase In reply to HFXmermaid [2009-01-14 00:04:20 +0000 UTC]

The music was composed by Matt Heider, who also did the music for the popular 90's PC games 'The Pandora Directive' and 'Tex Murphy: Overseer'. His latest film credits include 'Wide Awake Dreaming', 'Blood Soon' and 'Divine Unrest'.

he did a fantastic job. I enjoyed the film very much. Very seamless and I think you'll make a great addition to the festivals. A friend of mine is a local independent film maker. He made a joke trailer for a contest for grindhouse and actually ended up winning. He's been making crazy movie's ever since now! Been trying to convince him to come on DA [link]
here's the video he's most well known for: [link] The Hobo is a guy I know named Dave who always hangs out at the local comic book store! lol

Wonderful film! I've actually never heard the story before, but I liked it very much. I thought the whole film was very well executed, but I have to say my favorite part was the music. Huge props to Matt Heider!

Well done, perfectly well done. Achieving its mission of making us tremble in fear. The demise and sad fate of the currency well expressed in each one of their expressions. Scary, yet, beautifully made, indeed.

Two Thumbs up, if qualification required.

Grrr, one thing that really irked me is that the colored rooms wherent mentioned until the end. it said that the prince had an odd taste, but it left out the room that prooved that. I luv the How the air around the Red Death seemed hazy, but i didnt really visualize the Red Death to be lik the Grimm Reaper, it seemed alil cliche with the black around the eyes, i viualized, gaunt white, with red tears and/or red from the mouth. The actors where amazing, and i really liked some of the shots of the tumbril and the deaed nobles, really brought alot of emotion. I luved how the clock aspect was played out too^^ how everyone seemed to jsut stand awkwardly, not over done i thought that was perfect^^

^_^ its one of my favourite poems, and i would have liked to see how he decorated them in the prince's taste, it was just kinda thrown in at the end

I'm falling more and more in love with this as I watch.
I'm very much a lover of Poe, and to see his work played out is quite exhilarating.

The effect of the clock was positively wonderful, I love how you handled that. The narration I think went very smoothly and understandable. When I first read the story it instantly became a favorite of mine, and you portrayed it wonderfully. Nice work!
