I was doodling to some tunes in the Brickhaus Cafe in Jefferson, WI again, and a song popped up on my Zune. I haven’t listened to it in several years. The band is called “The Death Set” and the song is titled “Negative Thinking”. Its probably my favorite song on the album but the song got me thinking how important it is to have positive outlets to vent our negativity.Whenever I feel bad, or feeling stressed, I block away a set amount of time to draw. I feel a million times better after a drawing session and not only did it make me feel better but I’ve been productive too!
Several of my friends have told me, “Jake, thats cool that you have that kind of outlet, but I am not that lucky. I can’t draw!”
Well, drawing is just one of many outlets one could choose. There is so much one could choose from, cooking, exercising, woodworking, sculpting, photography, music, etc. Plus the more you do something the better you get.
So hopefully when you are feeling down next time, pick up a pencil, or a hobby of some sort. It has helped me and I know it can help you too.

the idea behind this is so legitimate. I tend to doodle, or write, or take pictures when I need to chill out or just vent. thanks for brightening my day.

Me too! And if I'm angry I'll doodle random angry creatures to show my... feelings but then I throw them away coz it feels like I'm throwing the anger away (but thats probably just weird)

I wish drawing would be my outlet, but when i feel bad or something i dont feel like doing nothing, but then ill feel like suddenly going for a random walk, and after i do i feel like all the problems disappeared

When I worked my last job I was under a lot of stress and worked longer hours. At the end of the day I would go off on these midnight walks around the city. It was very relaxing and helped me calm down. I think taking some time away to go mosey around is a great escape. Fantastic!

TOTALLY! I remember this one time I went for a random walk and all of a sudden I could hear music playing in the distance. I rounded the street corner and there was this girl probably in her early late teens/early 20s playing an accordian. It sounded so beautiful. I stopped and watched her play and we geeked out a bit. And then I moseyed home. It was straight out of a dream.

Ah yeah, There are times when I have doodle sessions and nothing good comes from it and then I sometimes feel frustrated but still not as stress as I was going into it. Hows the Madison gig workin out?

I saw it listed on website so I sent in the artist reg. Don't know what kind of crowd it draws or any artist that is going. I think they finally posted events and times today hahaha... should be fun either way.
