My first reaction was "aren't those the only lines in the game?", but that's not entirely true.
Thank you, although this drawing is old as hell - I guess Daggerfall is somehow my favourite Elder Scrolls game!
HALTHALTHALT HALT!

The first time I ever arrived at Daggerfall was in the middle of the night. I climbed over the gate to get into the city...then climbed right the fuck back over after I had only a little bit of health left. I spent the night on top of the wall.

Hey, very nice art, I love Dunmer!
Also, why is it that it's not a good idea to walk around in winter?

There's little additional danger in winter, but at night some less than pleasant company arrives...

And by less than pleasant company I mean a horde of ghosts that want to murder you.

Aww yeah, that's how Lysandus rolls xD I've read quite a few funny tales about the first encounter with that sound sample! (And was pretty scared of it myself, back in the day)

The controls seem to be a bit hard to get used to, yeah My brother showed me a video of the people of Giant Bomb playing it and they were struggling with them for a long time!

It is an EXCELLENT game. I started playing it a few weeks ago, and after setting up a custom control scheme, it became one of my favorite RPGS.

I have Daggerfall on disc but no pc to play it :C the Mac version of Dosbox doesn't run Daggerfall for me. All I could do is get out of Privateer's Hold before the emulator craps out on me.
This is a great picture. I like the depth you got from the mist in the background.

Yeah! And I'm getting a usb mouse soon so I can play it properly You know how to swing a sword you hold the right mouse button and move it side to side? That's not easy with a laptop trackpad

I played it on my laptop once, too, but I can't remember whether I had a mouse, swinging the swords with the trackpad does sound kind of funny though

Thankfully everything on higher levels either instakills you or doesn't really damage you at all, so not being able to heal won't be a problem anymore!

And about Arena - I dunno, I think it's more beatable than Daggerfall. All of the mainquest dungeons are pre-made and simpler than Daggerfall's dungeons of horror.

Awesome game, I played it after both morrowind and oblivion - but as soon as i did - i instantly fell in love with it. Sure, the game did have repetitive environments but the world just felt so alive! Arriving at a city at night, pitch blackness with the eerie music and the windows that slightly lit up where you were going really made for some great atmosphere.
Also - finding out that the snow on the ground was actually based on the SEASON and whether or not it snowed? That literally blew my mind when it snowed out and the snow covered the ground and stayed for a long time, especially with that epic tune - pretty sure it was called oversnow i think.
I think where both Oblivion and morrowind (to a much lesser extent) failed for me is they seemed to be lacking in atmosphere, and this is largely due to the music. Daggerfall didn't just have nice music that fit the type of music you would hear from a medieval movie - it had music that fit each weather condition and setting - and there was no "battle" music - this made it a lot creepier when you got attacked by something when you have a track like this playing - [link] Both morrowind and oblivion had stupid "oh a monster is coming from behind? lets play battle music and alert the player" which really took any "creepiness" out of the battles.
It wasn't just that though - even though Daggerfall had slews of features that never made the cut, or got bare bones slapped in - it still feels like its all there for you, and playing the game just feels so much more rewarding than the other TES games. I can't really describe it - but despite growing up with morrowind and loving it and playing oblivion to death, once Daggerfall was released for free and i tried it out - I never even wanted to go back to the later TES games. Plus the armor was epic. It does seem like Skyrim is taking some elements from Daggerfall so hopefully that turns out good.
My only real regret was that we didn't pick the game up when i was a kid - sadly we missed out on it back then - but then again, maybe its better this way - because i get to play it with all the patches and user-made fixes (I surprisingly haven't had that many problems, minus the void D
Interesting side note - anyone who likes daggerfall as much as i do should check out the XL engine and DaggerXL - some guy coded his own engine and is working on it to support Daggerfall fully (with mod support) along with other games such as Dark Forces or Blood.
He plans to reimplement many of the missing daggerfall features once the game is fully implemented - which it almost is right now - and those features include the advertised faction wars - but actually played out!
Also DaggerfallSetup.exe is a nifty installer some guy made that installs the game, patches and fixes for you, and sets it all up with DosBox.
Sorry if i talk alot lol - but this game is one of the most amazing I've ever come across, and has been one of the few games that has actually managed to "immerse me"

That's a cool comment, I didn't think Daggerfall would hold much value to people today who aren't nostalgic about it to the extent I am , so that's interesting to hear!
I could not agree with you more on the music, it's a key point I strongly disliked about Morrowind and Oblivion - they had good music tracks, but they weren't used in a very smart fashion. Especially the combat music that immediately told you you were being attacked, even if you didn't see the attacker!
I never liked any TES game as much as I did Daggerfall, although Skyrim is pretty good so far. Not enough time to play that the way I would want to, though
The point about the remake looks interesting, maybe I'll remember to look into it some time!
