Description
So,as you see, this is not just really rough and sketchy, but also something I'm struggeling a lot with.
That's why I try to tackle scenery, architecture, composition and painting all at once^^
To get a bit of progress and incintive as well, I'll try to do one of these every 3 days, similar to the idea of the inktober.
This is largely inspired by who is doing watercolor and gouache nature paintings this month,
but also did a great "guardian"-series in december.
Since I'm just beginning to figure this out, I'm greatful for all tips, criticism and insights I can get,
so if you have any, feel free to share
Also I'm sorry if anyone is bothered by these tries, they probably lack quite a bit of quality

Yaaay! The first one and I like it already; don't worry, it's going to be great, nothing better to improve like more work. I like the composition, good contrast between the background and the foreground.
(And thanks for mentioning my endeavors!)

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
Yeah, hopefully quantity will do it's magic^^
I'm still a little confused which plane has to be which value
to make sense, for example the floor compared to the building walls...
it's a bit muddy right now, many mid values...

I'm sure you'll be happy with the results of regular work on the areas you want to improve, there's just no other possibility I quite like how you placed the shadows/different values, the background is easily readable and the darker area closer to the viewer adds something interesting, more action to the work.

Thanks again,
well at least it worked better than the new one^^
but I do think I get a few ideas why...
the aeroperspective is one of the few principles I know so far
it would be great to have the ability to look at the world in black and white
from time to time to get the values
it's not always as obvious as it should be, especially with the sky compared
to highlights in the landscape... (at least to me it's not obvious)

I like this one a bit more because there's more contrast, the placing of shadows is more bold, the composition tight and because of that maybe more engaging? I see that in the new one you made it so we are looking at a scene from a window? For me that wasn't apparent at first glance. As for the perspective and its effects on the values - I see that you adjust the contrast with how far the objects are, so I don't see a problem I usually just try to blend the background with the sky more the farther it gets, as a general rule. I feel like that works, but I'm not an expert

Indeed, I agree,
thanks for all those points you mentioned,
sadly it's not as easy as I'd hope to fix them in new sketches,
but knowing is the first step
(for the "window/exit" or frame, that actually was a last minute decision,
but without it was even worse^^)
It's hard to keep the things that work, if I'm not yet at a point to have any idea
what I'm doing

Well, you're trying something new, at some point you'll probably get into a some kind of routine

Many thanks! The style is indeed simple, there are a lot of flat planes,
but since the point of this is to just get the idea across and the composition,
sort of a big thumbnail, that's currently what I'm going for^^

Ah, yes I won't forget those,
but even now, there are humans all around,
aren't these enough monsters?^^
