Falling into Fate- Part One
Meeting the Neighbors- Part Two
Thyme to Spice Things Up- Part Three
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The door suddenly became cold as ice, making her hands flinch from cold so icy that it burned. The voice came back, a little quieter than before. "Don't... leave... please." The necklace pulsating with each word.

"I-I need to get to a better place... I can barely hear you.. I don't even know if you can hear me.."

The room fell silent for many heartbeats. The door's coldness ebbing away. The next words were cut into chunks as though the connection's strength was being lost. "Please--my name's-- help us-- Alphys can-- please before---" Then the communication ceased. Somehow the determination Frisk felt was diminished when this unknown presence was cut off. The amulet turned a crimson red.

Frisk took her now freezing hands off the door, rubbing them together. "..." She pushed the door open. "Hey Sans..? I'm suddenly curious on Alphys. Can we actually meet her tonight...?"

Sans looked up from the booth, Muffet sitting across from him now. "No can do, Frisk. It's already getting late. If we don't start home now, Papyrus is going to be upset."

Frisk considered that thought. "Well I would like a good first impression on this 'cool dude.'" She admitted.

"see ya around Muffet."

"Oh you too Sans! Stop by with Frisk some time. I'm sure Darci would be happy ahuhuhu." Muffet giggled. As if on cue Darci came down a nearby slide.

Sans stood up from the table and walked to Frisk's side. "C'mon, I know a shortcut." Sans said leading her out of the restaurant.

Frisk followed, looking at her necklace, not bothering to bring up the conversation yet.

Sans walked right in front of a side wall. "Welp, are ya ready for this?"

"Yea, I guess..?"

Sans turned around and put his hand on her shoulder, suddenly serious. "Are you sure? This could be dangerous. Just, close your eyes, at least for the first time I do this. It has a tendency to, uhm, temporary blind people the first time it's done."

"Th...That's reassuring..." But Frisk obeyed, closing her eyes.

Sans tightened his grip on her shoulder. She could feel a sharp coldness upon her skin before it changed to a neutrality. Her necklace went haywire, buzzing and glowing fiercely. Two voices filled her head, both talking at the same time, making it impossible to make out what they were saying. Almost within seconds the 'short-cut' that Sans had took worked, everything silent once again. "You can open your eyes now."

Frisk opens her eyes, feeling slightly dizzy.

"Are you.. okay?" Sans asked her. "You were very.. unstable. That's never happened before. Did you feel anything strange?"

"O-Other th-than a headache, no," she lied, shaking her head.

Sans looked skeptically at her. He wanted to push for answers so bad at her obvious lie. "You're sure ? Because.. ya know I don't want you to get hurt if we ever do that again." He said, taking mental notes all the while.

"I'm fine," she said. "My head just hurts." She shook her head lightly.

Sans was about to say something again before a large skeleton busted open the front door after hearing their voices from outside.

"Sans? Are you finally home?" The skeleton peered outside, his face lighting up at the sight of them. "AH! The human! Greetings!"

Sans smiled at his brother. "Yeah, bro." The smell of spaghetti wafted out from their front door. "I take it dinner's ready?"

"Mhm!" Papyrus said, proudly putting his hands on his hipbones. "Tyler's already eating away in there."

Sans shrugged. "Ehh we're just fashionably late." They all entered into the simple, skeleton brother's house. Tyler was already half way done with his plate of spaghetti when he looked over at Frisk, slurping in the end of one noodle. The TV was on some sort of children's network. My Little Monsters seemed to be the title and it sang of friendship. Sans gestured to the spaghetti bar on the table to the right of them. On it was a huge bowl of noodles, sauce, and all the toppings you could have ever thought of, or at least the monster equivalent of it. Sans grabbed his plate and sat on the other end of the couch of Tyler.

Frisk grabbed her own plate, walking over and sitting on the couch between Tyler and Sans.

Tyler quickly grabbed the remote and changed the show to MTT news. "Well, hello, Frisk. My name is Tyler. Papyrus was very excited to meet you this evening that he prepared this wonderful dinner."

"Nice to meet you, Tyler," she replied with a smile. "I've been excited to meet Papyrus too. I've heard a lot about him."

Tyler laughed a bit, "Oh sure, Sans is really obsessed and for good reason. He's a pretty cool dude after all."

Frisk giggled. "So I keep hearing."

Papyrus strode into the room. "Well, human- ahem- Frisk nyeheh- I apologize, Frisk, I'm not all that great with human names."

Frisk let out a slight giggle. "That's ok, you'll get it eventually."

Sans smiled until he saw the 10 pm report come on. "Heeeeeeeeello my wonderful darlings~" Announced a robotic box on a single wheel.

"Tonight's news included the exclusive report of a new human falling into the Underground. Their name is Frisk and their soul is determined to be, well, determination."

Sans visibly frowned and slouched back on the couch.

Frisk's face got a little bit warm. No one's ever made such a big deal of her presence before and the blushed a little, obviously not used to all the attention.

Papyrus grinned at the TV. "Oh wowie! It's Mettaton!"

"What...What's the big deal about Mettaton," Frisk asked, still flustered.

Papyrus gasped, as though offended. "Why Mettaton is the very source of entertainment down here! He's great! He's amazing! He's-"

"A box with arms," Frisk noted.

“That’s not the point!” Papyrus complained, crossing his arms like a petulant child.

The box wheeled over to the center stage. "Here some of our reporters have captured some video footage of her." There's a small clip where Frisk is first being introduced to the town and Sans announced as her guardian. "Well, would you look at that folks, Sans the Skeleton has officially been named the guardian of the child." Sans huffed a bit. "And for our viewers at home, we've prepared a small game show. It's open to the public, just dial 1-900-METTA3 when you have the answer. Each caller who answers correctly will win a prize! Remember, first call, first shot."

Frisk shifted uncomfortably in her seat, still watching.

Mettaton continued, pulling out some index cards, a screen popping up with a game-show selection board behind him. "Alrighty then. First question: What is the strongest type of human soul?"

Frisk spoke her thoughts out loud. "Darci told me that determination was the strongest," she remarked.

Papyrus grinned. "Wowie, you're smart! Why don't you call in?"

"Because that's something everyone here should know, right? Isn't that common knowledge down here?"

"We'll wait a minute but if no one calls, I'm dialing," Papyrus protested, leaning back on the wall.

"Oh it looks like a call is coming through!" A generic icon popped up on the screen. "Hello, darling, you're now live. What is your answer?"

A familiar voice came on.

"Determination!" shouted Darci's voice.

Ding ding ding ding ding

"Congratulations! Can we get a name please?"

"Darci, it's Darci! Omg I can't believe it."

"Believe it Darci because you just won a free 1 year pass to the Metta Funhouse!"

"OH MY GOD THANK YOU!"

The call ended, presumably to be forwarded somewhere where someone has more details about the prize winnings. "On to the 2nd question: What is the color of a determined soul?"

[

Papyrus looked at Frisk, holding up the phone.

Frisk shook her head. "I know the answer, but I've had too much attention today."

Papyrus made a 'nyeh' noise in protest.

The show remained silent for a few minutes before a hesitant voice was heard over the speakers.

"is it.. is it red...?"

"Yes, darling it is! Can we get a name for our viewers."

"uhm.. I uhmm.. no it's ok..."

"Don't be shy now, there's nothing to worry about. You're a winner!"

"R-really? Oh I guess I am. It's Napstablook."

Mettaton faltered for a second. Before clearing his robotic throat.

"Well thank you, Napstablook. You've won a free 3 course meal at Grillby's and Muffet's dinner."

"O-oh, uhm, I can't really.. well thank you anyway."

There was an awkward pause.

"Ok folks final question, this one is for an all expense paid overnight stay at the Metta resort. Complete with a face to face dinner with none other than yours truly!"

Papyrus bounced with excitement. Frisk leaned back in her seat.

"Boy I'd love to be the winner for this," Papyrus said. "A face to face dinner with Mettaton! Wowie!"

Tyler looked at Papyrus, phone ready. Sans on the other hand looked like he could care less.

"The final question is: What is Frisk's last name?"

Frisk froze as Papyrus turned back to look at her, a gleam of hope in his eye sockets. She glanced at the TV and back at the hopeful skeleton sitting before her. She lowered her head and let out a sigh. "M-My last name is Freeman, Papyrus.. How they'd know that is beyond me.."

Papyrus grinned as he dialed up the number.

"It looks like someone is actually calling in! Alright darling, you're live. What is your answer?"

"Freeman," Papyrus said confidently. "Her last name is Freeman."

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding

"Congratz, can we get a name?"

"Papyrus!" He looked back at Frisk with a happy grin. Frisk smiled a little, leaning back into the cushions of the couch.

Sans just sat shocked as Mettaton forwarded him to an agent who explained the details of the visit on the coming weekend. "But.. wait.." Sans stuttered.

"You're allowed to bring up to 3 other people, but no more." said Burgerpants. "The passes will arrive in 1-2 business days." click The phone was hung up. Tyler jumped up in joy.

"You did it Papyrus, you actually won!"

"NYEHEHEH!" Papyrus cheered. "Thank you so much Frisk! He got up and scooped her into a hug. Frisk squeaked and giggled a little. "I'm able to take 2-3 people with me, so you, Tyler, AND Sans can come along!"

Frisk made a glance at Sans, her hair falling loosely over her shoulders.

Sans sunk back in the couch, resting his head on his hand. He had an unreadable expression on. “I’m happy for you, bro! But I think I’ll have to pass. I’m p sure I have some killer shifts coming up anyway.”

Papyrus shrugged. “Nyeh, I guess so.. Still surprised to see you work.. I’ll never get used to that.” He gingerly placed Frisk back on the ground. “How about it, you two?”
Frisk nodded. “Sure, why not. Not like I’ve got anything better to do.”

Tyler pumped his fist in the air. “Oh hell yes!”

Papyrus grunted. “Language please.” He let out a slight sigh, placing his hands on his hipbones. “At least you two can get to know each other more until then. Even while we’re there, maybe Tyler can show you around more.”

Tyler looked between Frisk and the tall, skeleton. “Yeah, I suppose so. I mean someone’s got to show the rookie the ropes.”
Sans gave a grunt from the couch. “I already gave her ½ the tour of the underground. Tomorrow me and the kiddo we're gonna head out to Alphys’ lab and wrap it up from there.”

Frisk was hardly paying attention to the conversation. She just stared at her locket, fiddling with it with ginger fingers, tracing the outline of the heart.

Sans looked over at their grandfather clock. “It’s getting a little late, don’t you think, Frisk? You’ve had a pretty eventful first day. Why don’t we all hit the sack?”

Papyrus heaved a sigh. “For once, you’ve had a marvelous idea, brother. Frisk, you shall sleep in my room for the night until I can get your room situated!”

Sans smiled. “If you need anything let us know. We have extra blankets and pillows if you need them. Otherwise anything in the fridge is fair game.”

“My room is right upstairs, first door on the left,” Papyrus told her with a grin. She nodded, turning and heading up the stairs.

Tyler yawned. “I suppose we should all hit the hay anyway. Sounds like we’ve got some big events to plan for tomorrow.”

Papyrus looked slightly confused. “Why are you hitting animal bedding??” Frisk snorted, putting her hand up to her mouth to keep her laughter contained.

“What? No not like actually hitting it but you know.. Uhm..” Tyler’s mind went blank trying to figure out the original context of the saying. “Well, I dunno, just going to sleep.”

“Where on earth do you get ‘going to sleep’ from hitting animal bedding? Huh. Humans are weird.” Papyrus shook his head and went downstairs into the basement. “Good night!”

“‘night, pap! Sweet dreams, hopefully filled with bunnies and puzzles.” Sans smiled, standing up and stretching. “‘’night to you two as well,” he said before walking out the front door.

Frisk heaved a sigh. “Good night, Tyler. It was nice meeting you.” She smiled ever so slightly before disappearing into Papyrus’ bedroom.

Frisk walked into Papyrus’ room only noticing a faint glow of a computer screen from the other side. Flipping on the light switch, she was able to see it was much more of a child’s bedroom than one expected of a  huge, adult skeleton. Action figures were set up next to an racecar bed. There was a computer on the other side of the room with a static screen buzzing on it that appeared to be the culprit of the glow. Though there was nothing else of particular interest than a bookshelf and a closet. “This is a cute little room,” Frisk muttered to herself as she closed the door behind her. She stared at the computer for a moment, wondering why it was covered with static, but shook her head as she went over to the racecar bed, which seemed more for her size, wondering how Papyrus even fit into the bed. She sprawled out on it, staring at the ceiling.

Before long there was a knock on the door. “Hey kid, I got some blankets for ‘ya if you want them. I know that papyrus likes to sleep with just a sheet most nights.”

Frisk tossed her legs over the side of the bed and got up to get the door, though stopped halfway because of a sudden headache.

Sans knocked again. “Kid, you in there? The light’s still on..” Sans opened the door a bit, noticing her holding her head in one hand. He opened the door the rest of the way and walked over to her, blankets still tucked under his arm. “Hey, are you ok?”

“Y-Yea,” she stammered. “J-Just a slight headache. I-I’m fine..”

“Headache, huh? I forgot how fragile humans are to stuff like that.” Sans lead her back to the racecar bed, tucking her in the best he could. “I don’t know a whole lot ‘bout human health, but I could get you some water or somethin’. If it still hurts tomorrow, I’ll have Alphys look at it for ya.”

Frisk nodded a little, more focusing on the cool metal necklace against her skin more than what he’s saying. “Ok..”

“Holler if you need something. I’m in the next room over. And I mean it, holler. I’m a really really deep sleeper.” Sans said, walking back towards the doorway. Standing in it he said, “Sleep tight, don’t let the spiders bite,” before shutting the light off and closing the door behind him. On the other side of the door she could audibly hear him mutter, “Muffet really needs to start getting leashes for those things.”

Soon enough, the room was filled with silence once more. Frisk soon allowed the gentle red glow of her necklace lure her to sleep.
