Description
Here's another animation I've made, which is for part of a 2D Sci-Fi animation workshop for college. This time, we had to create some sort of alien presenting facial expression, and over coming a problem with a power of theirs. This is kind of my first "lengthy" animation I have made, considering my last one was about roughly a second or two long.Firstly, I know the alien isn't exactly professional looking, as I just stuck with my usual cartoony roots, or just way within my comfort zone basically. Although, I like personally like the simple, cute design overall. I pretty much used my inspiration towards Wander Over Yonder for this guy, as you may or not already tell. Some of the character's features (e.g. the hand) may look slightly off, since I did have to rush it a little in order to get it done on time. What I do like about this animation is that I like the more smoother look to it, and already looks more nicely presented. I'm also overall satisfied with the animation itself, which I do find fluid most of the time. I also did the animation frame by frame, using different layers to keep me sort of on point, and to save me as much time as possible. I personally do prefer doing frame by frame animation, but I'm sure that's what cost me the three days, although I thought it was worth it.
Also, I animated in ToonBoom for this animation, and I have to say, I really do prefer ToomBoom over Flash. Mainly because I find it more convenient, more advance (I like me some advance softwares), and I just found it much better to draw in. When drawing the character, I kind of treated the software as if it were Paint-Tool SAI, which I'm easily familiar with, and really do find more helpful and better then Flash.
Overall, being happy with it, I may later finish this off in my spare time. I plan on to add a background, establishing shot, sound effects, and background music too, hopefully anyway. So I may update on this sometime in the future.
Anyway, I hope you all like it!
Anyway, I shall shut up and stop rambling on now, and let you all peacefully enjoy the animation. Enjoy!

Thank you! And funnily enough, I actually don't even know what it is myself. I've always just imagined it as some strange alien sanitizer.

Darn, my phone won't let me look at the animation. Will watch it on my computer later. I'm sure it's great

This turned out excellent. Great job on all the movement and how you can easily tell Jerry's mood by his eyes and moustache, I enjoyed the gag with the oil too.
This animation might seem simple on the surface but I can only imagine how much time you put into each frame - very well done.

Thank you so much buddy, your feedback means a lot, much appreciated. I'm also quite surprised that this animation I've created took me three days to do, but at the end of the day, I'm very pleased and even satisfied with the final outcome.
Thank you once again!

Hehe pretty good animation you've done here, man!
The frame by frame work is really well done, also I really do like the facial expressions and the character features on the alien too.
Personally I need to get into doing animation myself in my own free time, I'm currently practicing the simple basic steps of frame by frame animation at the moment.
Anyway, it's always great seeing more animation clips from you, Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much!
The frame by frame technique does take the longest to do, but I sure thought it was worth it though, and even somewhat satisfying to see the final film. I personally do prefer doing it frame by frame, since I feel as I have more freedom to draw the character when animating. I also did make separate layers for drawing it frame by frame as well. Which does make it quicker, since I don't have to draw the whole character over and over again for each frame. Plus, I'm able to expose certain body parts that remained still during parts of the animation. Making it a much quicker and easier process.
Making animations in my spare time is something I definitely would love to do as well, I would especially love to have a go at animating Ralph. Animating is sure great fun, and I'm sure it's something you would enjoy too! And that's awesome dude, I think it would be great to see your own animations. Keep up the practising!Β Are you also using any softwares as well to create your animations, such as Adobe Flash or ToomBoon just wondering?
And thank you so much once again buddy, and I'll be sure to do my best! Much appreciated!

You're very welcome!
Yeah I also agree with you that frame by frame animation is much more satisfying to look at once you've seenΒ the final film.Β
I understand it'll be a very long process by doing the frame by frame technique for your animation, but as you mentioned before
about doing the separate layers technique for your drawing, it does help it become less tedious and time consuming.
Animation would definitely be something I'd enjoy having a go at. Once I've got the hang of learning the basic stuff to it
I'd love to animateΒ one of my characters too in the future.
Right now I'm only using the Onion Skin mode feature on FireAlpaca to practice for animation but I would like to use the ToomBoomΒ
software once I'm more experienced and comfortable at animating.
Once again you're very welcome man! I'm sure you'll do great!

Nice stuff dude, what are you currently practising animating if it's alright to ask? When getting software also, I would suggest trying Adobe Flash, you can get a short trial of it. It does have a slightly more basic interface compared to ToomBoom though and it is less intimidating as well.

Thats alright, just currently practicing on simple stuff like facial expressions at the moment.
Cool, sounds like Flash would be a good starting point for animating. I'll definitely give it a try sometime.
Thanks for the information.

This is a great animation. It's very clean and I love the finger spray and the facial expressions. I also agree that toonboom is a more convenient program to use. I made an animation in toonboom, but it was VERY poorly done and looked liked a bunch of scribbles. :/
I love seeing your school projects dude and am glad that you're enjoying the courses. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Thank you so much dude!
I do definitely think ToonBoom is much more useful and convenient to use. I find it much easier to navigate through and to control, despite it being a little more advance than Flash. Where as with a Adobe Flash, I've always found it awkward in some areas. One example for me is having to just lock a number of layers, to avoid rubbing everything out which I've always found to be a pain. I think it's great to hear that you've had a go at making an animation as well, it always makes good practice. Do keep having a little practice bud, I think it would be great to see your own little animation. And I'm really happy that you are enjoying my college related projects as well, and I will strive to hopefully upload more related content. I always love to show everyone with what I get up to outside of d.A, and I am really digging into my course too. I cannot wait to take it on further
And thank you so much for the comment once again buddy, really means the world to me! I hugely look forward to bringing you more stuff soon!

That's quite a specific brief for an animation. It's nice to see what you do in college and it must be an interesting courseΒ

Admittedly, I did go a bit too ambitious with the animation. It really should of have only taken me one day to make the animation. And thanks man, I always love to show you lot what I get up to outside of d.A. And it's indeed a great course too, I am really enjoying it so far.
