Description
Python brongersmai.
Unmistakable due to its stocky, even seemingly compressed anatomy, this python is one of the many character-snakes and its head alone also is quite a distinctive mug; while it is named after its colouration in both English and German, its name in Thai is literally "Duck Mouth Python" and one can easily see why.
Even though tiny compared to the other two pythons of Thailand (Retics and Burmese), it is the largest from the three known species of Blood Python (the other two being P. curtus and P. breitensteini, both of which do not occur in Thailand, though). This species also is infamous for having quite the feisty temperament; Mark O'Shea remarks in his book "Boas And Pythons Of The World" that this python may not only be named for its colour but also for the fact that they easily draw blood, being so prown to bite.
Their scientific name honours dutch zoologist Leo D. Brongersma.
...Blood Pythons do amuse me. They look like stuffed socks/red blobs/giant leeches. Still, their colour and pattern is unbelievable.

I was just bitten by a blood python last weekend! They definitely have quite the attitude, but they're pretty snakes.

Boah, so viele Schuppen!
