Scales. :') He has tons of special lotion for his head scales only, making it shiny and shimmering and increasing the iridescent effect (though, it's fine since a certain falcon lady can use it for her beak, too. X))

The instrument is based on a Phin (ΰΈΰΈ΄ΰΈ), which pretty much is a Thai version of a lute. The sound it makes is VERY Thai as well, one of the typical/classical instruments from there. Example for listening: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHzk-Dβ¦

And yes, Sesh is quite tall (the tallest of the trio anyway). He is well-defined, though. Rather uses speed over power.
