Description
งูลายสอลายสามเหลี่ยม.Xenochrophis trianguligerus.
The Triangle Keelback is a medium-sized natricid that can be found in peninsular Thailand. Like most natricids it is adapted to a semi-aquatic lifestyle and preys on fish and small amphibians. It is considered nonvenomous and poses no danger to humans, but will readily bite at the slightest disturbance.
Most interestingly, at least one species of the Xenochrophis genus is reported for the ability of tail autonomy (namely X. piscator, though also classified as Fowlea piscator in most recent times). If caught or harrassed, these snakes may twist their bodies and break off their tails like lizards and geckos. It may be possible that the Triangle Keelback is also able to do this, though tail autonomy hasn't been reported for this species thus far.
