Well as a matter of fact he's not a pirate per se....

Mercury originates from a wealthy merchant family and rather protective parents who wished him to marry well and settle to continue their trading business - so naturally Mercury became a cartographer, chose to travel around as much as possible and got himself involved some interesting smuggling business - eventually clashing paths with the Sunshine crew.

Mercury is an aristocrat and prefers his looks and manners kept pristine and neat - he loves fancy swords and hats. He's a devilishly good a swordsman, always composed and snarky to the core - elegantly of course. He tries his best to keep his curls in check and tries his hardest to mask them as a wig - sadly though his hair rarely agrees to his plans.

He hires the Sunshine crew and gets his views on life and himself challenged by them - and especially so after Lumia ends up on the ship.

Gosh I love him so much and I know he sounds a lot different than the usual Mercury - but rest assures he still has his clumsy, warm side to him, it's just kept in check by himself ;D and the check being constantly challenged by everyone around him.

The left one gotta be the best Mercury I've ever drawn!
