back to my regularly scheduled picture commentary:

Baten Kaitos fanart!! (He does look kinda lovecraftian, though, doesn't he? tentacles, deformities, roundness, several eyes, wings even more useless than Cthulhu's...) EDIT: also, I just noticed that I did this in Lovecraft's 122nd birthday!!

Emperor Geldoblame is one of the main villains of the videogame Baten Kaitos (2003).

A thousand years ago a battle between humans and the evil god Malpercio left the Earth tainted and so the human wizards elevated some untainted portions of the Earth into the skies where humanity could live. Apparently they did it by linking a piece of Malpercio's body and power, the so called End Magnus, into the new sky-islands. In his lust for power Geldoblame collected the End Magnus, thus provoking war with the other islands, and tried to absorb Malpercio's power. He failed, of course, and instead this was the result.

He is still one of my favorite characters of the Baken Kaitos games, though I still prefer his older evil version to his younger nice (although sometimes creepy) self. I guess that the fact that he transforms into a this thing that looks like a creature straight out of the Cthulhu Mythos and that *HUGE SPOILERS* he returns in the end of the game for revenge with his newly acquired cosmic powers (also quite lovecraftian...)*END SPOILERS* have something to do with that

Now some technical details about the drawing:

This was drawn over gray paper, the first drawing I have done in my new self-made skecthbook. Before I managed to draw this I had to do a lot of trial and error. Here are some previous sketches: [link] but my major problem were not the details but the space, ugh, he's so big I couldn't make him fit in the paper the way I wanted!

Some other things,

the tentacles may look weird but that's how they were designed in the game, also, those cilcular marks rather than suckers are just decorative, or at least that's what I imagined judging by actual game footage and concept art.

I wasn't sure if the wings in the original concept were suppossed to look battered or were instead some sort of seaweed but in the end I went for this last idea.

In game you can hardly distinguish any of the facial features so I used the concept art as a reference for the face (although, you can't see much in there either...). He is supposed to have two fangs but after trying drawing them in the sketches I ditched the idea and instead added it ears to remind the audience that he was human until moments ago. This also shows in the eyes, there's 4 of them like in the original concept but, in here, the upper pair is suppossed to look more human than the other. I tried to draw this upper pair of eyes wide open as if he was in disbelief and/or terrified of what he has become.
