The timing of this work could not have been better.

I never watched Kolchak: The Night Stalker until a few weeks ago when I started watching it on Netflix streaming. I knew about it beforehand through my love of the X-Files, but I never got to watch it until now. Now I am fully obsessed with that show! Obsessed I tell you! I may even like it better than X-Files. It has to be one of the most unique shows to have ever graced American TV - no wonder television execs killed it . I absolutely Darren McGavven (in a totally hetero-way of course ). It's a pity we only got 20 episodes

The BBC ought to pick up the rights and try their own hand at a show like Kolchak, I'm sure they could do it justice.

(as an aside: looking over this comment I realize I've used more emoticons than a hyperactive 15 year old school girl but that's what Kolchak does to me .)

I totally agree! It's a pity they messed up the reboot of the show in 2005.
But we all knew the soulless suits couldn't make anything as excellent as
the 1970s show. I enjoyed the Kolchak series for the charming and likeable
main character, Carl Kolchak - A hard-nosed 1930s-style reporter, caught
in a crazy world and surrounded by unimaginative officials.

It was also a slice of classic Americana, showing us a nostalgic world
that no longer exists. No Internet, mobile phones, but lovely big cars,
properly sexy women and men who act like men! And good horror mystery!

A real one-of-a-kind show - I'm glad so many still appreciate it!

I heard about the reboot but haven't seen it. I heard the characters were flat and uninteresting compared to the original (apart from the unique setting of the 70s show).

Glad to see I'm in good company when it comes to Kolchak fandom

I think these yuppie execs rebooting old classics simply "don't get" what made them classic!
Yeah, avoid the new Kolchak if you don't want some nostalgia magic to die!

I can imagine these jerkoids looking at the flatline ratings of their new crap
"trendy" shows and saying "But we ticked all the focus group check boxes!"

I think Monty Python had it right with their penguin sketch, the one where penguins replaced television executives and the ratings when through the roof

Holmes is the brains, Kolchak is the field worker, and shaggy... well... he's a waste of human resources and makes the other two look even more damn competent at their jobs

I can imagine it being like this.

"Holmes went to his topmost shelf and reached for a leather case that lay untouched by the dust that had gathered on the shelf. The cases hinges worn from over-use, he prepared himself to open that vile chest that held the most demeaning of drugs when a knock came at his front door.

Leaving the box, he answered the door's call. Opening it he met the gaze of two men. One with a bizarre outfit, far too ruffled for the refined gentleman to ever wear, a worn out pork-pie hat that rest on his head whilst he seemed to be carrying a bizarre contraption over his shoulder. The other odd chap was a rather young man, thin, unkempt, wearing clothes not even the most unrefined savage would never even have the dignity to wear.

"Mr. Holmes?" said the man in the pork-pie hat, "I'm Carl Kolchak and this is my...err... assistant Mr. Norvile Rodgers. We'd like to inform you of our current situation, and how you can currently help us." The American in the ruffled suit began to shuffle his feet whilst trying to maintain eye contact with Holmes' daunting eyes.

Holmes let a slight smile curl on his otherwise cold face. "Watson!" he yelled, "Put my Cocaine away... THE GAME IS AFOOT! Not a word, Come! Into my tidings, and come!"

OR! That could just be my over-reactive imagination running way to much
