Description
she was our server at our clubhouse last night...put two people who are passionate about photography in one booth ... with the new 85/1.2L lens close ... and ... well ...
put a photographically interesting subject a bit more than a meter away ... and ... well ... you know what happens.
so ... after shooting at the chateau marmont ... there was a bit of an afterparty, of which, i invited my best friend, who also happens to be a fuckin' rockin' shooter ... he's a reuters staffer.
we were both hungry ... so ... off to the clubhouse.
it's not a clubhouse. it's a restaurant owned by our friends.
dinner at 11.00p is so nice.
someday we'll actually have to pay i'm sure.
i thought our server was very interesting ... photographically.
i said to her, "please ... think about your grandmother, the one who gave you your necklace."
her grandmother is still in poland.
the wistfulness in her eyes -- i surmise -- is her thinking about her grandmother.
this is why i make photographs.
anywhere.

Thats a nice picture. I love how she is playing with her necklace and how it is the necklace that is the focal point.

Awesome photographical work once again - as always Chris - I keep popping in here at DeviantART to check out your image descriptions, gives you something more than when you see an ordinary photograph of someone popular
Even though the focus is not at her eyes, and even though her hand interferes with her eyes - I only see the eyes

She really looks like she misses her grandmother. I guess, if someone didn't read the description... she could almost look bored? She has really nice eyes.

She's got those shocking eyes. They really do look like she's thinking, very hard, about something.
You did a rockin' job of borrowing that expression, and it's a lot harder than everyone pretends it is to do that.
Like the grain. It looks kind of natural.

wonderful chris. you have this awe-inspiring way of capturing something beneath the surface of the situation... but i guess that's why you are where you are, yes?!
it's beautiful... through and through.

Sure.. You have some of the best photo's of the most famous people around..
But this is something different.. This is just beauty. And i'm not just talking about her either. It's the photo and the story that goes along with it.

You've got talent my friend - not just taking photos, but motivating your subjects!
Love the DOF, focus centred on the necklace, the thing that she's thinking about and the shallow DOF putting her face ever so slightly out of focus - as though you're day dreaming with her

...i don't think i've ever been critical per se...
...but i know you know that even hp5 pushed would have rather more attractive grain than the digital noise above - yeah, i know, it's what ya gots with ya...
...in spite of that, it doesn't really detract from a really good image...

so if you get the f/1.2 does that mean you almost always shoot at 1.2? or do you ever feel the need to increase aperture?
