Ragnarr was an only child, born to two rogues. His birth was a terrible experience for the Mother, since his golden pelt revealed that he was not the son of her mate, but the result of a rendezvous with another male. This angered the father considerably, but he allowed the female to nurse her baby until he was weaned, at which time he took the boy and abandoned him near the border of Mateso. He then killed the mother.

The young cub was found scavenging on the border of Mateso by one of the soldiers, whose name is Ukatili. Reluctantly the soldier took the boy on, and though the two aren’t exactly buddy-buddy with each other, Ragnarr respects his new father for saving his life.
