Before we begin, let us start by asking ourselves why Quill has never drawn a happy Simba, not even as an adult. He deserves to be forever unhappy.

M'kay, so I want to talk about this. I have come back from yet another year-long hiatus, and I have been reviewing all my old work (including submissions to my former account, tardis101 ). While I will always love the things I used to draw, I strive for improvement with each upload, but one thing is worrying me - am I selling myself out here? I mean, it's awesome that the quality of my work is improving, but can anyone even tell it's mine any more? Does it still have my stamp on it, or have I lost my style in trying to get closer to Disney's? That's what I've been thinking about recently, so I decided to do this just to show my improvements/style changes.

#1. 'What If' Contest Entry July 26th, 2010. I was fifteen when I drew this, and at the time I was super proud of it. I still am, in a way, because it was my first time drawing Simba (and Muffy) and it will always have a special place in my heart. Why Simba has manly, fuzzy eyebrows is a mystery to me, but there we go. I was more focused on putting all the pieces together than making it look anywhere near accurate, and my anatomy was appalling. Also not sure where I references those colours from, but he is very yellow indeed, and the lineart is shaky asf.

#2 Simba: I dun get it July 28th, 2010. Apparently I had too much time on my hands in July 2010 >.> Again, the anatomy on this is way off and my idea of shading was to slap a gradient on there and be done with it. Here we see a lot of what my original style was; exaggerated features/expressions (dem eyebrows doe') and ears which are always either too big, or too small. There was no in-between. I was also really struggling to correctly draw TLK style eye-shapes (I still do, actually).

#3 Lonely Simba is Lonely February 22nd, 2013. Three years later, I attempted cub Simba for the third time. A few anatomy issue are still obvious, but the lineart is a lot cleaner and the shading/highlights really improve the quality of the image. I hope my style is still prevalent in there somewhere; I have a very particular way of drawing eyes, noses and ears, which I think is still noticeable in this image.

#4 Sulky Boy May 14th, 2015. Two years after the last, I went for it again, and I think it turned out pretty well. There are less anatomy problems, but I'm definitely not out of the water with that. There are a few hints of my old style in there - massive eyes, shape of the nose - but this is surely the closest my style has ever been to Disney's. I wonder if my method of highlighting contributes toward my style; I've always thought so, anyway.

Well, there we have it. I will make a point of drawing a happy Simba at some point in the future. Any input/feedback would be greatly appreciated
