Description
Luftwaffe maintenance personnel have the option of wearing overalls. Overalls are particularly popular when particularly dirty work is necessary. Enlisted men wear blue overalls, while Sergeants wear black overalls. The black overalls worn by Sergeants are a homage to Luftwaffe's maintenance Sergeants of World War II, the famed "Blackbirds". Individual ranks are not worn. The only rank distinctions are in the colour of the overalls and the silver tape on the collar for Sergeants. Overalls are not provided for officers. The Luftwaffe considers it unseemly for officers to carry out physical maintenance work. Their job is to train and manage their maintenance workforce.
