Description This is the actual cover to Academy Comics' Robotech The Movie Adaption issue 1. It is painted in watercolors. I did this back around 1996.

Robotech The Movie was my first professional penciling and inking job. When I was tapped for the project I thought I was going to adapt Macross The Movie. So I did a lot of research and practiced drawing Macross mecha & characters. But upon receiving a video tape from Academy Comics, I found out it was Megazone 23 and had to redo the process. It was hard to get M23 references at the time so I learned to draw everything from clicking the Pause button on my VCR.

We were also under severe deadlines at the time and everything was rushed. Wasn't the greatest experience in my professional career, but I did learn a lot of different aspects to producing a comic book in the process.

pretty slick for a 1996 drawing. seen parts of the show since 1989 but did not see in it'sΒ full episodes until 98. it was real awesome anime and not computerized nonsense like today I mean have you seen the gundam anime nowadays? too slick and sterile. my favorite characters in the show are rick and lisa. anyway what got me started watching anime full time is voltron. excellent stuff but have you seen clips from robotechΒ the movie? it is hilarious. I cannot criticize too much I love the pic.

no it wasent, the story was never completed, it had to be changed quite quickly (not sure why) and the second issue continued from the last issue, but went in a completely different direction, more dirty pair meets bubblegum crisis than megazone 23

Oh, darn, I should've known about it back then as a middle schooler lol.Β  '96, the final year for the acid music movement.

BTW, is it still available to read anywhere?

Not sure about online. Those 2 issues can out at the end of the Academy's Robotech license. So there are pretty hard to find.
