While the film's legacy is definitely tainted by much too many sequels and spinoffs, Ice Age is a big personal favorite of mine in the category of animated features. On the surface it might appear simple and childish, but if you really take the time to analyze every scene and consider them in relation to other scenes, there's a lot of really interesting and thoughtful story going on here--especially with Manny. His backstory drives so much of this movie, and when you recognize it, it makes it ten times better than you already may have liked it.
