It took around 5 days in total to make the little mask. I started with creating a dome skeleton out of cardboard, then a layer of aluminum foil to create more shape and then a layer of ductape to keep things in place and to make the surface a little less bumpy. goiku.deviantart.com/art/Maske…

I only used 2 or 3 thin layers of paper mache (just strips of newspaper) at most i think, primarily to get the mask smoother. The most time-consuming part was adding the many layers of Gesso. Gesso is a primer, filler and paint in one. It has a similar texture to gypsum but becomes much harder when fully dried. After plenty of layers you are able to create a rather smooth surface. But yes, a little patience is needed to get there

Pchoooo, that is a lot of work indeed .3. I'm trying to make myself a mask for a journey costume I'm working on, but I don't have much time (It's for Abunai, which is next weekend ) And I'm just doing it with a balloon and a LOOOT of paper mache ^_^;; I think your method would cost me a little too much time, since I still have a lot to do .u.;; Including going to the hospital to get a surgery done to my frenulum 8U So yeah xD Luckily that only takes one day xD

Interesting XD These masks are for Abunai next week as well. You'll probably see me walking around with them then.

Cool! Well, for that mask i think the balloon technique should work just fine. No, I wouldn't use Gesso if you have less than a week to work on it. It takes time for all layers to cure properly. Don't cause youself unnecessary last-minute stress XD 

For the mask i'll be wearing the balloon technique wouldn't work. That's why I didn't do it that way. The mask has an oddly shaped mouth that needs to be perfectly symmetrical and I wanted the ears tightly secured. So instead I used a party mask and created the actual mask over it, in a similar way i did with the small mask.

Yeah I thought so as well, good to hear it probably will x3 Even though it will still take some time to apply even more layers of glue-goo paper (best name ever), it has to be that way XD Ah yes I see, yeah the balloon technique definitely wouldn't work for that XD Will you be wearing a costume? Or only the mask?

Ik wacht nog op een paar schoenen die ik als last-minute vervanging moest bestellen, maar voor de rest (op het masker na) is alles af.
