Based off of personal experience (unfortunately that last part isn't very far over exaggerated...).
The worst part about fan art is that it gets more noticed than stuff you actually put more energy, thought and devotion into (such as *ehem* an original comic series with all original characters). Fan art just seems to be giving the creator of (insert franchise here) all the credit. All you did was draw the stuff. T_T Not to mention all the people that come at you expecting yet MORE dumb fan art. I've considered taking my fan art down (at first I had uploaded 1 stupid piece of Sonic art that I had made a few years ago, not expecting it to get as much attention as it did). So what happens? I upload more, just to see if it would incline people to look into the REST of my gallery. But like all my plans seem to go, that one backfired, and now all people want me to make is fan art. So there you go, what did we learn today, kids?
