I haven't actually played the games. Just stumbled on a Kerrigan video on YouTube one day and it made me want to find out her story. Which is how I found out about Jim. I only watched the movies (cutscenes).

I think the cannon had little to do with her killing Warfield. It was the remark about Raynor that set her off.

From what I've seen (this is one game I haven't actually played, but I watched the "movies" - basically all the cutscenes from Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm - and read the wiki on her and Jim), it's after she's fooled into thinking Jim was executed.
