It means abuse. Like, in this instance, Merlin nearly died and is now deathly ill. That is considered Whump. Or if Merlin was captured by (IDK... bandits?) by bandits and they torture Merlin. That would be Merlin Whump too. But it can hapoen to any character. Personally, I'm all for whump!Merlin and protective!Arthur. Its my weakness

Of course our precious baby can't die! He's far too loved for that to happen and if that was to happen there would be an army of Merlin fan girls attacking the show's writers, but there's nothing wrong with torturing our beloved baby

I live for Merlin angst, I really don't know why but I love it when he gets injured, I'm evil that way, I tend to watch Merlin with my parents but I may have to watch it alone to enjoy/cry at Merlin being hurt, I'm hoping the grand reveal will happen one say soon, Arthur has to find out eventually what with the whole great destiny together and being old king Arthur and powerful warlock Merlin and then all will be well, unless he's revealed in front of Uther, that would be bad for poor Merlin, poor boy has enough trouble as it is.

I think that's how its probably going to work out, that or he saves Arthur again who actually sees it this time and realises, he may be mad and yell and might punch Merlin and have a dramatic moment but in the end he really can't ignore the fact that Merlin would do anything for him and has kept him alive for the last few years and saved Gwen, his father and the whole of Camelot lots of times
