Description
A first try at stacking two exposures, one for the shadow and one for the bright portion. It looks like my "bright portion" exposures were still a little too bright so it was hard to get detail in that section. I'll try again with some other shots now that I have Photomatix. I kinda like the "glow on the rim of the bright portion but it doesn't quite look right.Canon T3i, Orion Skyview Pro 127 (Exposures of 1/5s and 3.2s stacked in Photomatix)

I saw both lunar eclipses this year. The January eclipse set while the moon was still only partially eclipsed, and the July eclipse was plagued by cloud cover. If the weather cooperates this coming January, I'll try my own hand at doing this.

Good luck! It was fun staying up all night to get this one, but I haven't had the incentive to do it again

Wow, this is awesome! Usually when I see pictures of the moon they are not very well done, but this one looks so good. Faved!

Thank you so much! It helps to have a 1500mm lens (my telescope )

Oh, I see. I was actually wondering about this since the exif data says you used 50mm focal length, but if you used telescope then I understand how you got the moon so close.

Yeah, for whatever reason, when no lens is attached, the "default" focal length for the EXIF data is 50mm. I might start correcting it now that you mention this, we'll see.

That's a good idea, it's always nice to know what settings others have used after all.
