Description

I was lucky enough to find an old Gunnm model kit from 1992 in the back bin at a convention. It’s the kind of thing that’s rare to find copies of at this point, much less an original. So, I went the extra yard when working on it. Here are the details:

    -          The biggest change I made was the fact that this piece comes with two sets of arms. One with the coat and one without. You can assemble it either way. By far, the most common thing to do is glue it together with the coat. That is what she is wearing in the promotional image the model is based on. Instead, I rigged the model so that the arms are replaceable. This way, she can be displayed with or without the coat.

    -          The body is three layers of paint for texture, plus a gloss finish. Probably an unpopular choice, but the reflections accentuate every fold and curve and gives it the look of a latex body suit. It also adds a nice finishing contrast to the rest of the figure.

    -          The metal parts like the arms are airbrushed steel with a Tamiya Smoke finish. Gally’s still in the scrapyard at this point in the story, so I allowed the smoke to pool in ways that made these pieces look worn.

    -          The face is airbrushed in a few tones. The eyelashes are three dimensional. The irises are drilled to give more of a 3D look and a high gloss layer was painted over the eyes to give her corneas. The hair was layered blue and purple highlights then darkened. The chevrons were treated the same way the arms were, including the smoke. (Decided on the metal chevrons to match the promo image.) She even has the earrings, but they were covered once the hair went on. The lips were colored, shaded, and glazed in order to give a slight reflection.

    -          The coat and boots were airbrushed, then shaded with acrylic. I purposefully let the black paint get a little gritty. Again, I didn’t want it to look dirty, but well worn.

Due to its age, rarity, and niche audience, there is a good chance this is now the most technically detailed completed version of this kit in the world.
