Description
This was one heck of a project....Each piece of this set was individually handmade using polymer clay. They were then cemented to mirror disks and glazed for protection. The average height being about three inches tall. The board itself was made out of glass. The back was brushed with a transparent paint that made it look like stained glass. (I picked out colors to try and make it look like the grass in the game.) The total set took over a hundred hours to create.
ADDITION (9/10/11): Now that things have calmed down a little, (I've been very busy outside DA recently.) I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who's commented on this piece. A special thank you to ~ridiculyss for suggesting it and to ^KubusRubus who thought it was worth the DD. I've never gotten a DD before. I honestly thought my account had been hacked into when I woke up in the morning to see 470 notices on my profile.
I also owe a special thanks to another DA artist, ~Selurnis . If it wasn't for her I probably never would have gotten into colored polymer clay in the first place. She taught me almost everything I knew at the time about polymer clay and everything I knew about making objects this small. If it wasn't for her this piece might not have even existed, much less come out as well as it did.
I didn't have room in my place to display it, so someone bought it from me shortly after it was finished. I don't know where it is, but if they happen to read this I'd be curious to know where it ended up. As long as someone is having fun playing with it, I consider the work well worth it. (I never was very good at chess.)

I estimated this piece at just over one hundred hours. I was still learning a lot about polymer clay at the time, so there was a lot of experimentation.

Creative concept!!
You made the dolphins' normal looking, which, BTW, make them look cute. Did you know that in the PvZ game, the dolphins are also zombies???

Thank you. And, yes, if memory serves they have a scars or something. But, since not much of them is shown, I didn't think it would add too much to the piece. Besides, I liked the idea of having cute dolphins. It makes the zombies look that much uglier.

I'm trying to make some Pokemon with self-hardeningclay, but it's so hard to make one without a template DX

Ah, thanks ^^
How do you make them shine though? Do you put some type of gloss on them after you've finished?

Yes, I used a glaze made my the same manufacturer as the clay. I'm going to try some new stuff though. It was kind of expensive for the amount you got, and it didn't keep very well.

Ah. Are you supposed to put the glaze under the colors or over it?

The clay itself is colored. (You can get without color if you want, but then you have to paint it.) The glaze I used is made to be put right on the clay.

Oh. I just usee regular slef-harden colorless (white) clay. And yeah, I do paint it...maybe I should get colored clay
And, I see. Seems easy enough.

Yea, I found it's good for small stuff. A little expensive for anything large.

How much does colored clay cost?

Cyle In reply to Druddy [2012-10-15 21:01:43 +0000 UTC]
It's about $2-3 for a two ounce pack. Just before they restock, the art stores will usually put them on sale for $1.25 a pack though. It's a good time to buy them.

Ah. Doesn't sound that expensive, unless I plan to make many clay models. Well, thanks for the tips ^^
