Description Learning is magic.

And physics is awesome. You should totally take it.

EDIT: I had no idea what EQD was going to do with this, but apparently they put it in their Episode 100 Follow Up !

I saw that in Silver Quill's video.
That just broke my brain :v

So much math... Math is magic, I guess. Also, the force diagram is also called a free body diagram.

Thanks. Well, the physics is legit, but most people just enjoy throwing a heavy object down the lane and going from there.

Yep - you're either a serious pro with the ball-bags and stuff or a random person who's there just because "dude wouldn't it be funny if we went bowling?"

..... And yet again somehow a show about ponies proves me wrong when I went "I don't need this math! When would I ever use it?"

((Seriously though I struggled with math but this is math magic. ))

I knew they looked fairly relevant but it's been a long time since I took a physics course.  Well done!

Holy carp. So all the equations were relevant. Been a while since I could solve any of them though.

I really need to watch that movie. This is the second time it's been referenced in the show.

I took physics. I really tried hard in it too, but I still got a C. Now I despise math. It's too bad; I thought physics was so interesting. So it was a total letdown that I so routinely failed at it.

Cyle In reply to Jesper6 [2015-06-16 01:00:23 +0000 UTC]

That sucks. The conceptual side is still fun to think about, even if the mathematical side doesn't float your boat.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jesper6 In reply to Cyle [2015-06-16 19:51:13 +0000 UTC]

Truth. I still wish I wasn't so bad with the math.

WindLane [2015-06-14 21:18:57 +0000 UTC]

The curve that you say is more of a drawing than a graph - whelp, as a bowler I can tell you that it's showing the idealized curve, which gives the ideal contact angle for when the ball hits the pins to cause the most consistent reaction for knocking them all down. I forget the exact angle of attack (bowling's been around a long while and people have been obsessing about it since nearly the beginning), but that diagram for a curve looks almost exactly like similar diagrams I've seen in books on bowling technique.

There's a surprising amount of math in those kinds of books - ideal angles, speeds, rotations, and how you walk and swing your arm and let go of the ball affects all those things.

Cyle In reply to WindLane [2015-06-16 01:02:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I believe it. Go deep enough into any sport and you'll find plenty of physics involved. That "graph" was actually what is called a motion diagram. It's still perfectly legitimate physics, but having an X and Y axis didn't quite fit in.

Hehe, pretty easy physics if you ask me! I was taught that when i was 15 years old (idk what kind of grade, because Greece's educational system is different)

I only took Physics Honors, but I can say a lot of those equations look fairly correct. Nice touch with the Y-axis equaling zero.
