3D Week

Today's contest is to submit a 3D Model that would be fabulous if it were 3D printed!

Don't forget to check the =3D Week Announcement = regularly for upcoming events and contests this week, we've got a lot on!

From today until Friday, you can note Cymae with your entry. The title of the note MUST be "3D Week Modeling Contest Entry", and should contain a single thumbcode.
This can be any new or existing model in your gallery, so feel free to polish off those fantastic older pieces that might be a bit neglected.

The thing about this contest is that we're looking for models which would be great printed. Think about which model in your gallery would benefit from 3D printing, and importantly is solid enough to print (things that float in space obviously won't work). Here's 10 things 3D printers can do now to get you thinking!

Entrants will be short-listed and final judging will be conducted by Professor Olaf Diegel ,
Read about 3D printing and our interview with Professor Diegel Here ! :thumb29848778:

Judging Criteria:Your model will be judged on:
Complexity and Technical Difficulty
How well it would 3D Print
Overall Aesthetics
Adherance to the rules

Prizes: First Prize: Your model printed by Professor Diegel
Get your 3D work printed in 3D and send it to you in the mail!
Note: You must still have the model when you submit. If you cannot produce the model for your winning entry, you will be disqualified and the next best entrant will be the winner.
Second Prize: $25 Print of your choice from DeviantArt
OK so it may not be 3D, but you can still get your work printed (or someone else's if you like) and sent to you, courtesy of DeviantArt!
Third Prize: 1000 DA Points
1000 DA Points goes a very long way, and it goes to whatever you want on DeviantArt! Premium Membership, DeviantArt Gear, Prints, generosity to your fellow deviants, it's up to you!

Rules: Any 3D model in your gallery that is 100% your own work will be accepted (this can be anything; characters, objects, furniture, vehicles, etc).
You MUST be able to provide the model file and a valid postal address for printing if you win first place. If you cannot provide the model to be printed, you will be disqualified and the next winning entrant will be promoted.
Please submit a model only, textures OK, but no scenery or post processing.
Only one (1) entry per person. If more entries are received, only the first will be taken, and you will be unpopular with the judges for spamming the contest.
You must note Cymae with your entry. The title of the note must be "3D Week Modeling Contest Entry" and should contain a single thumb code.
No entries will be accepted after Friday 2 December 11.59pm Pacific Standard Time. The time stamp from your note will be taken.

Good Luck!

Cymae In reply to Janiashvili [2011-11-30 19:37:06 +0000 UTC]

yes as long as you can leave a bit of a gap around them so they can actually move

Cymae In reply to Resxct [2011-11-29 00:41:15 +0000 UTC]

Nope, it's 3D printing, can be as high res as you want. Obviously normal maps and transparency won't work though.

What format does the model need to be in?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cymae In reply to airflamesred [2011-11-28 19:38:09 +0000 UTC]

as long as it can be exported out to an OBJ or STL or something we can convert to an OBJ or STL then it's fine. Most modelling packages should be able to convert to at least OBJ
