For 3D Artists, model sheets are really important to help get work out the proportions of you character and to line up your 3D Model so it looks correct. Unfortuantely, it's really hard to get a good model sheet, so I thought I'd offer up a quick example.

From the front, a character on a good model sheet is in the 'T pose', so named because the character has their arms outstretched, palms down. The legs should be spaced about shoulder width apart to make it easier to model the legs without the other one getting in the way.

From the side, the character should be straight, leaning neither forward nor backward, and with a circle where the arm should be to allow placement in 3D. A top view of the arm can be drawn seperately to assist modelling.

A rough line of the position, shape and size of the head is good to add, to give proportion to the character. This can have a little detail but should not obscure the outline, otherwise issues will arise when attempting to model a part that isn't visible.

A seperate model sheet for the head is the best appropach, with hair (if required) done transparent over the top of the head as not to hinder modelling of the shape.

All features must line up in the front and side view. A good way to assure this is to draw lines. In the above examples, lines are drawn at the base of the foot, the ankle, the knee, the base of the posterior and the crotch area, the waist, the base of the breast, the under arm, mid arm, top of the shoulder, chin, and top of the head. A line is also drawn down the centre of both views to assure everything is straight.
