Description
for those of you who are interested in seeing how I draw a male portrait in charcoal, step for step.(this one is Alex Suarez, who I drew recently) sorry I didn't have the room to get into detail about how I handle certain things like (eyes, lips, noses, beards, stubble, winkles, etc.) there wasn't enough room in this one.
this is my first tutorial, so forgive me if the gray background is not consistent (as it should be). If you have any questions at all, ask away. I'll be happy to help.

Thats Awesome
How Long Does It Take You To Do A Portrait? And Do You Do It All In One Sitting Or Spend a Few Days Working On It?

thanks! it takes me about 4 hours, more or less. most of the time I use a 9x12 board, so it fits in my scanner. no, I don't usually do it in 1 sitting-more like 2. I evaluate my progress at each stage, maybe turn it and the ref photo upside down and compare shapes and values, in case the drawings needs some corrections. I work late at night - like 2-3am on these, so if I feel I'm losing my focus, then I put it away til the next day.

From my experience, many artists get their 2nd creative wind between the hours of 1-3am. (However, many of those don't bur the midnight oil, so the 2nd wind is never utilized.) Some of my best works were done at those hours, too.
Your work is awesome!

Thanks! you're very right about that. also, it's the only time I can draw or paint undisturbed

you're very welcome! we artists all have different working methods in drawing...mine evolved from friends and other art students and tutorials over the years, mixed up with my own experience.
