LOL
I'd just add that the grid doesn't have to be the size of the paper. It only has to follow the proportions of the original.
Indeed I never even bother to print the reference, I draw from my computer screen. I make the grid in PowerPoint and take it from there

For me it always make sense to have it the same size I always use the same grid

Wait, do you draw the grid on the paper and then rub it off after drawing the outlines?

Yeah That or I just draw the grid so lightly that it goes away when I start shading

Hehe; i love how you almost abused your own tutorial xD
I must be weird... because I use a reference half the size of A4 ... so A5... to copy the outline. I make the grid on my page twice as large, which nearly fits an A3 page.. and then a full A4 to follow the details and shading etc....
If that makes sense... :S

haha lmao xD
Basically, i draw on A3, but I can't print A3 references. So it's easier to print A5 and make a grid that I can double in size, as A4 in portrait doesn't fit A3 in portrait ....
I'll not confuse you anymore hehe

Ah I kinda get it now! I usually dont print out my references, so it's easier

Yay! lol
Printing easier; I can't always be on the computer, plus there isn't much room on the desk/ cupboard lol
It is annoying though; i have to check the computer to see if I'm getting the tones right or not ^^

It's very true... but on the other hand, I might be getting an ipod touch, so in that case, I can just save the picture I'm drawing to that, and then consult it when i need to

koala145179 In reply to acjub [2011-08-25 21:17:42 +0000 UTC]
first of all, i use photofiltre programme.
and 2ndly: i like..i take the white A4 paper in that programme, so it really has the same width and length as a real A4 and then i put the reference inside it & grid it. : D
but well, the point's the same.

Well the grid I use is A4, so I usually add the grid to the image, adjust it, and then crop the image with the grid. so it'll be the right size

haha, great! An easy way to get the grid onto your paper is to print it out, then lay it under your paper, and then trace it
preferably with a ruler.
I'm glad my "tutorial" made sense!
