Hopping from system to system in his gunship Death's Head, Lockdown has made a name for himself as one of the most ruthless bounty hunters in the galaxy. Especially notorious for his unrelenting nature, Lockdown will pursue his quarry to the edge of known space and beyond, and has an unmatched rate of capture. It is no surprise, then, that after receiving a distress call ostensibly from the flagship of the Decepitcon fugitive Megatron, who carries on his head the second-largest bounty in Cybertronian history, Lockdown makes his way to planet Earth. Unbeknownst to Lockdown, however, Megatron has a small army of loyal subjects at his disposal, which he uses to subdue the hunter and destroy his ship. Promised an even more handsome reward (and his life) in return for his services, the once-proud Lockdown has little choice but to ally himself with the Decepticon cause for the foreseeable future. He is unquestionably out of his element working as part of team and under orders, but greed is a strong motivator for change.
Lockdown has accrued a hefty fortune through his work, but prefers to spend the bulk of his earnings on contacts and information networking rather than equipment. Instead, he delights in pilfering weapons, gadgets, and occasionally entire body parts (when the contract allows for it) from his captured prey as trophies. His weapon of choice - which he is never seen without - is his magna-revolver, kept in a holster on his hip. His quick-draw speed and accuracy with said weapon is unparalleled, making it nearly impossible to get the drop on him unscathed. Other favorite weapons in Lockdown's vast arsenal include a phasic sniper rifle, a pneumatic grapnel hook, and a razor-edged throwing disc which doubles as a stylish hat.
-------------------------------------------------...And here's Lockdown, just in time for his appearance in Age of Extinction! Which doesn't really seem to have much to do with previous versions of the character, from what I can tell, other than possibly being a bounty hunter. Legacy Lockdown here obviously takes almost entirely after the original Animated incarnation.
Lockdown is actually one of the earliest designs I drew for Legacy, even though he was never meant to be in Series 1, unlike a few other characters we'll be seeing in Series 2 and 3. Although he ended up going through a lot of changes in the last month as I worked out the design, he was always intended to be a Harley-style motorcycle, and always had the hat and poncho. Originally the hat was going to be unremovable, but I just couldn't make the transformation work, so it just pops off the sidecar wheel (part of the tire forms the brim, not just the hub, in case that wasn't obvious). The end result allows it to be worn or not worn and used as a weapon, so I think it actually works out a bit better, even if it's technically partsforming. The entire idea of the hat, incidentally, comes from art of Cad Bane from The Clone Wars I saw before that character's first episode even aired. Now the series has wrapped after (literally) six seasons and a movie, so that kind of gives you an idea of how long Legacy has been in development.
But yeah, about the transformation. For all the headaches and false starts that accompanied its development, the end result is actually fairly simple; it mostly just involves contorting the limbs into position. Like I said earlier, he wasn't originally supposed to have a sidecar, but it became increasingly obvious as I went that he was going to need the extra mass in robot mode, and it also helps further differentiate him from Arcee, the other motorcycle bot. If you're having trouble sussing it out, Lockdown's chest is formed from the BOTTOM of the front half of the sidecar. The rest should more or less fall into place from there. Although his origin is perhaps a little less Frankenstein-y, I tried to retain the asymmetrical appearance of the Animated and ROTF versions of the character. I'm pretty happy with the result, as it's something I typically shy away from (Blackout being the only other exception in Legacy IIRC).
So Lockdown is the fourth and final sniper in Legacy, the third in a row (oops) and the second to take a motorcycle altmode (oops again). He does have a sniper rifle, formed from the front wheel, struts and exhaust pipes - It's visible in the schematic view - but I'm not super happy with how it turned out, so I decided against focusing on it as it relates to his character or in the art. Instead I chose to beef up the "western outlaw" motif, hence the old-timey revolver and straight-up cowboy holomatter avatar. It may seem like an oversight to not utilize AOE Lockdown's "gun face" for a sniper character, but I really kind of hate that whole idea, so.
Other details to mention... even though the hook-hand doesn't fit thematically so much with the Legacy version of Lockdown, I felt it was an iconic part of the character, so I kept it as sort of a forearm-mounted harpoon thing (it'd be a firing missile in the hypothetical "toy", which is why it appears detached in vehicle mode). You could still retract the normal hand if you prefer a more classical look (likewise, the "hat" and "poncho" are optional). His sigil, like the Animated version, is based on the classic "rubsign", the idea being that its display would change depending on who he affiliated himself with while on jobs, and would be hidden (black) most of the time. His eye color... if you haven't noticed, Legacy abides by the G1/Animated rule that Autobots have blue eyes and Decepticons red. For characters who aren't explicitly allied with either faction, they take any of a number of different eye colors. I have yet to decide whether specific colors are indicative of anything, but Shockwave and Lockdown won't be the last we see of them.

Extremely spindly robot mode but I like the choice of alt; it's definitely unique compared to the other versions that we've seen for him in the official continuities.
And that use of the hook and poncho for his Harley is genius.

I'll preface this by saying you have made me SO happy by doing Series 2 of Legacy. It's hard to find a good fan-made TF series that doesn't feel so...fan-fictiony. IMHO the best part of your series is that it feels like it could be an ACTUAL series.Β
And then, I also like how all of these characters have existed in the franchise before, but you twist them so well that they feel like their own unique characters.
Lockdown has to be my favorite character introduced to Transformers within the last decade, and kudos to you for bringing him into your series. I love how you retained his asymmetry in his robot mode design, but he still pulls off a smooth and serious look. The sidecar does make his vehicle a bit less threatening, but making him a motorcycle was nonetheless a good choice. By far the best part of his design are the homages to Cad Bane and The Man with No Name. I love your series, man, and cannot wait to see more!

Kinda I expected Lockdown a little, because since his badass portrayal in TFA his popularity rose sharply. He has been converted into G1, and now he will be most likely the main antagonist of AoE (personally reboot or not, I dont like the current renditions of the design, its even far more off from G1 than the previous trilogy). Personally I see Lockdown as tall Cybertronian that transforms into muscle car, where his height is double the length of the alt mode (half of it are his legs), but your interpretation tries to give him a different approach, which I applaud
My impression of Lockdown... Clint Eastwood has come from a Wild West to do some cleaning I cant remember the name of the film where Eastwood played as some guy in Wild West, but this is the impression I have of Lockdown. Or "Dirty Harry in Widl West". When you mentioned Cad Bane, he sure looks like that one, also in mentality I think. I can imagine that Lockdown is a bot that can in one occasion fight you ferociously, and in other he can cooperate with you without problem, if that suits his needs. And that he must work for Megatron despite his desire to tear his head of and collect the bounty, thats an interesting twist into his character :d A bounty hunter of old that can kill you in a blink of the eye by a revolver, thats something really badass, especially with a poncho flowing around and a wide hat covering his head
The only minus I would give is that he must be pretty short, I think that even Stormcloud is taller than him, which is kinda... not the way how Lockdown should look like.
With that, choosing a Harley-Davidson is good and bad. Good that it makes your Lockdown stand out among others. Bad that it makes him, when the size-shifting is not in the way, pretty small, which little demotes his status and impression. But, that may play into his cards nicely. The size can be very deceptive, and thus lethal. For example a Bonecrusher will mock Lockdown for something, believing he can easily smash the hunter with his giant arms. And in the next moment Bonecrusher will be lying on the ground and Lockdown walks away, using one martial art moves to send the giant D-con down, his poncho flowing in the air. Also, being a motorcycle gives him the benefit of being quite subtle when moving in the cities, unlike a M1A2 Abrams or TOS-1 Buratino, being probably the fastest Decepticon in cities so far, and who can get into smaller areas where no one else can hope for. Ideal for a sniper, to get into higher ground where he will probably be little squeezed, but will nonetheless fit in here. Thought his hologram masquerade... that may raise an eyebrow, but I accept it as acceptable. And the asymmetric body is nicely done, adding the sidecar definitely helped this. And it wouldnt be Lockdown if he didnt had his hook If AoE Lockdown wont have it, he isnt true Lockdown for me.
I guess that, never before, you made the transformation as confusing as now. Previously I had a remotest of idea how it all worked out, dont knowing the specifics, but now I have absolutely no idea. If you havent said his chest is made from front sidecar, I will dont know it until now. Than his abdomen is made from the engine, his right arm from the other half of the sidecar, left arm the fuel tank and handles, legs probably the back wheels, and thats about it. I have no idea how this all fits to make a chopper. And the thighs... I guess that you have surpassed yourself One cause also may be that as I dont see the other side of him, I cannot that easily associate the part of his body to the altmode.Β Having the revolver stick from the sidecar is a good thing, he can be just as dangerous on wheels as he is on foot. Definitely no one I will underestimate in combat.
I have more or less talked about his personality. He is a man who will find a way how to get what he wants, which is often to apprehend a person to collect bounty on him. He is probably thrilled by the hunt. The thought that he was beaten by Megatron, who he wanted to take down, and forced to work for him, must be really painful and humiliating for the best bounty hunter in galaxy. He must really hold himself to not break Megatron's spine, as he will probably dont make it through all others, especially Blackout, who is probably... two times of his size for sure, and unlike Bonecrusher he is not that stupid to underestimate others because they are smaller
Final words. Cad Bane was one of my Top 5 most favorite characters in Clone Wars, so in this regards I hold Lockdown quite high He is a great representation of tough cowboy that deals the blow that will knock out a lot of his adversaries with a single shot, with his lightspeed quick-draw, which is something what most boys must admire and wanted, if just in childhood or always. Also his eye color, I agree with you that probably every Cybertronian can have different eye colors like us humans, but changes it as to represent their side, blue for Autobots, red for Decepticons, but it isnt strictly set that "you are good, you have blue eyes, you are bad, you have red eyes". I like it.

Jeez, V, you gave me barely anything to rebut with this time. Have I finally created the perfect Transformer???
I understand the resistance to changing his established altmode, but I thought it fit his character archetype better: a loner pursuing his quarry through the wild frontier. He won't be the only character in series 2 to receive a drastic change in altmode in order to better fit his personality.
His inherent shortness is something I considered, but I've pretty much already conceded that minor "mass-shifting" is a thing in Legacy. He'd probably still be at least the size of one of the car-bots, roughly. Like you said, he's meant to outsmart, not out-muscle his enemies anyway, so I don't see it as a huge problem.
I swear the transformation isn't as complex as it might seem. The thighs are just the lower part of the bike, where the pedals and exhaust pipes attach to, the shins are the wheels, the fender rotates downwards and the seats spin around to form feet. His left arm is made from the chunk that sits below the seat (battery? I dunno) and the fuel tank, with the handlebars and windscreen just folding up against the forearm to make way for the hand inside. His right arm is made from the outer "wall" and seat-back of the sidecar. The "floor" and inner "wall" of the sidecar fold up to form the holster, attached to his thigh. the part of the sidecar that forms the torso is attached to the engine on a bar, and just swings up and rotates 180 degrees. And the head just folds out of the torso. The guns, hook, banner/poncho, hat, and exhaust pipes all detach during transformation.
I promise you V, someday I will finish making the instructions for everybody. It may require some gentle prodding though. I still have half-finished ones for Jazz and Soundwave lying around, I guess I can start there.

Well, I guess that you made it now without a hitch Thought I am not sure if Perceptor didnt received negative points as Lockdown... did he? Dont remember.
Yeah, I understand that Thought the hologram is not fitting. You wont see a Texas rich man (yeah, he looks like so
) riding on Harley-Davidson or choppers at all
Maybe a guy with trench coat and more rougher facial features would have fit him well.
Not at all
I more or less have an idea what part is what on his body, but how it all turns out The torso for example, the "engine block" is in horizontal position in both modes, and when I loo on the chest/front of sidecar, it doesnt match to me much, because the "bottom" of the engine is in alt mode sitting beside the chest. Actually, I am not even sure how that one is positioned, the windshield on his back Β confuses me a lot with its positioning, I dont know if it "faces up or down", or where. Where is the head in alt mode, "pointing forward with top of its head in alt-mode, looking to ground or to sky". And the right arm makes it even more confusing. Overall it is. The front wheel of the bike is on his right shoulder? Or it is the wheel on sidecar (right)? And the back wheels of bike and sidecar are shins? How can you have the seats be on both legs if the one wheel is on sidecar, far from the seat? If it is that the leg wheel divides, together forming the back wheel of bike, and the sidecar wheel is indeed on shoulder, than I miss the front bike wheel at all. Half of it makes the sniper rifle, but where is the other half? And, where actually is hat stored in alt mode?
Soundwave is the big enigma with his arms. Jazz is complicated, but not as tough as big blue and silent Soundwave

Uh I don't really see how the holo looks like a "Texas rich man" and he already has a trenchcoat and rough looks so uhhh???
I don't think I understand the first line of questioning about the transformation, but regarding the wheels: the sidecar wheel is on his right shoulder, and the hub of that (along with part of the tire) pops off to form the hat. The back wheel splits in half lengthwise to form the shins. The front wheel, which forms the rifle, breaks in half and the two halves sit side by side. Maybe just best to wait for the instructions on this one, lol.
