Astrid: So how was your weekend with tall pale and handsome?
Hiccup: Astrid I’m trying to finish my homework before it gets any later.
Astrid: I didn’t text or call you once all weekend! I’ve been good, I deserve answers! How was it? What’s his family like?
Hiccup wasn’t sure how to answer the question. He was still in the process of trying to work that out for himself now that he was home and could look back on the events of the weekend subjectively. After some time he decided to just tell Astrid the truth. Perhaps she could help him work it all out.
Hiccup: Honestly? It was like a dream.
Astrid: Wow, not like you to get all sappy Hiccup Is Jack melting your sarcastic jaded shell?
Hiccup: I was being serious. It was so weird and different, I almost can’t believe it actually happened?
Astrid: What on earth happened this weekend? Your talking like he took you through his closet to Narnia.
Hiccup: Nothing that extreme. It was just things like, okay so Aster, Jack’s brother, and his boyfriend bicker all the time, and joke about sex and stuff, and the rest of the family either just ignores it or joins in! And its not weird! Which really is the weird part.
Astrid: So they are a lot more laid back and open than your dad? I think that was kinda already assumed.
Hiccup: I guess. It was just so comfortable? Comfortable is a good word for it, and I just felt so comfortable there. Like I didn’t really feel self conscious, at least not too much, not even when we were naked. Hiccup hit send and then immediately regretted it as he saw what he had sent. He’d just been talking his thoughts through and didn’t really think about what he was saying. Oh well, can’t undo it now. He braced for Astrid’s texts.
Astrid: WHEN WERE YOU NAKED?!?!
Astrid: I thought you said that you weren’t ready for sex?!
Astrid: Did he pressure you into something? I swear if he did I’ll kill him for you.
Hiccup: No Astrid don’t kill him, that would make me very sad. He didn’t pressure me into anything. Besides, we didn’t really have sex, not really.
Astrid: How do you ‘not really’ have sex?
Hiccup: Well I mean, there was a lot of, uh, rubbing, and like thrusting? But nothing actually went *in* anything.
Hiccup: God I can’t believe I just typed that…
Astrid: Yeah me neither. My little Hiccup is growing up so fast! Soon you’ll be married and living together and maybe even putting things in other things!
Hiccup: OH MY GOD ASTRID can you STOP?!
Astrid: Why? Its obvious you have a good time and its fun to tease you about things that make you happy. Mostly because its good to see you happy.
Hiccup: I did have a good time, as crazy as it was. It almost feels weird being back home now. Getting back to the way things usually are.
Astrid: Well if life on the real world is so dull you’ll just have to go back wont’ you? Any plans to go back?
Hiccup: I did get invited back whenever I want, so I guess I’ll have to just makes plans mostly. Maybe next weekend, I’ll have to ask Jack.
Astrid: You should get him to invite me too! I don’t have anything next weekend and I miss you.
Hiccup: I don’t know, he might not want to.
Astrid: What? Why not?
Hiccup: His family are pretty private. It wasn’t technically a lie but Hiccup still felt bad saying it, still he wasn’t about to tell Astrid the truth about Jack’s family, at least not without his express permission. He knew that she probably wouldn’t treat Jack any different, but it was Jack’s business who he told and who he didn’t. He did feel bad though that he hadn’t really seen Astrid in a while and he didn’t want to become one of those people who ditched their friends as soon as they started dating someone.
Astrid: Lame. Fine, abandon me for your boy-toy.
Hiccup: OMG Astrid he is not a boy toy!
Astrid: Looks good enough to be one. At least I assume the rest of him does based off what I’ve seen.
Hiccup: Wow, I’m surprised at you young lady! It is completely none of your business how incredibly hot Jack is or is not without clothes on.
Astrid: Your right, thats between you, him, and your dick.
Hiccup: ASTRID!
Astrid: What? Am I wrong? Besides, based on what you said your dick rather likes him.
Hiccup: You are ridiculous. And I need to get to bed now, its already later than I wanted to be up, school in the morning is going to such.
Astrid: School always sucks. Its school, thats like 50% of its job.
Hiccup: Yes so lets not add being tired on top of that.
Astrid: Fine fine. I’ll see you in art tomorrow.
Hiccup: See you then! Goodnight Astrid.
Astrid: Goodnight Hiccup. I’m glad you had a good weekend :) Hiccup smiled as he get up from his desk, having finished the last of his make up work while texting Astrid. As he was getting ready for bed he text Jack goodnight and smiled at Jack’s response.
Hiccup had slipped into bed and was just about to put his phone on his nightstand to charge when he thought about the texts he had sent to Astrid. Feeling suddenly nervous he pulled up the conversation and started checking off texts to delete, trying to make the conversation seem more innocent, and failing, so that in the end he just deleted the entire conversation. Deleting the texts left him feeling slightly guilty, like he had done something wrong, which was crazy because all he had done was delete some texts, people did that all the time. Except Hiccup didn’t delete his texts, he just let them sit until his phone automatically deleted them save for a few important messages he had marked for his phone to save. Pushing the ridiculous feelings of guilt form his mind Hiccup plugged in his phone charger and curled into bed, hoping for a restful night before school tomorrow.
If there was a more perfect representation of Hiccup’s transition from the world of the weekend back to his real life, it was that day at school. He had a pop quiz in physics which he was pretty sure that he failed, still trying to completely catch up on what he had missed during his hospital stay and then what hadn’t made sense since he had missed things. His clay in art class has dried out and cracked around the tail of the dragon he was sculpting which meant he spent the entire class trying to fix it instead of actually moving forward on the project. The worst part of the day, however, came at the very end when things should have been looking up, as he waited for Jack by the door near the school gym. Snotlout and a couple cronies came around the corner and the bulky teen got a predatory sneer spotting Hiccup without Astrid nearby.
“Whatcha doing over here Fuckup? Waiting for your boyfriend?” Hiccup’s breath caught in his throat as his stomach fell through his feet. His face felt suddenly warm and the world seemed to be spinning around him. He wanted desperately to make some clever quip or snarky remark that would counter what Snotlout had just said, but his brain refused to focus on anything other than panic at the moment.
“What?” Hiccup finally managed lamely after several long, agonizing moments.
“Frost, everyone saw you and him get into that fancy car on Friday! The two of you heading off to see your sugar daddy?” Hiccup’s mouth was to dry and his knees felt like they were going to give out under him as his brain searched desperately for something to say. He tried to force his rebellious body into line to do something, anything, to refute Snotlout’s claim and make this all go away, but he couldn’t.
“You know, if you wanted to know if I was single you could have just asked.” Hiccup could have cried as he heard Jack’s voice a moment before his white hair came into view from the door to the gym changing room. “Although I don’t really go for the frumpy asshole type, so I think I’ll just stay single for now, thanks.” Jack walked past Snotlout, who sputtered in response, and to Hiccup where he leaned up against the wall casually putting several feet between himself and the brunette. “Astrid should be out in a minute.” He said to Hiccup as an afterthought. Hiccup nodded dumbly.
“Yeah, I suppose Frost’s to cool for you even as fags go, huh Fuckup?” He sneered at Hiccup as he turned to leave. Hiccup snuck a sidelong glace at Jack, who looked for all the world like he hadn’t even heard Snotlout, but Hiccup knew better. He could see the hard set of Jack’s shoulder’s and the forced casualness of his expression.
“Did I hear what I think I just heard?” Astrid whispered to the two of them as she came out of the girls locker room a moment later.
“Please just leave it Astrid.” Hiccup whispered back, turning to toward the door and away from the terrible day.
“I’m not going to let him just-” Astrid started but Jack cut her off, his voice hard.
“Leave it. If you do something about it then you’ll just lend credence to what he’s saying. He said that at me, and most of the football team at least suspect I’m gay. So just leave it be.” Astrid looked like she wanted to protest but then thought better of it and nodded her accent.
The walk to Hiccup’s house was a quiet and tense affair. Astrid tried to engage either Hiccup or Jack in conversation a couple times but gave up when they only gave simple one or two words answers. She said goodbye to them when their paths home parted ways and Hiccup and Jack were left to walk in silence the rest of the way, Hiccup trying desperately to keep his growing sense of panic under control at least until he got home.
The moment the pair were in the house with the door closed behind them Hiccup let his backpack fall from his shoulder and sank into a chair, burring his face in his hands.
“Oh god…” he mumbled.
“What’s wrong?” Jack asked, his voice harsher than it usually was.
“What’s wrong? What do you mean whats wrong?! You head Snotlout, what he said! What if he starts spreading rumors around the school? What if people start believing them? What if-”
“Whoa whoa, slow down Hiccup. Snotlout made some stupid comment because he’s and ass, and because he’s probably still mad about the black eye. Thats it.”
“You heard him, people saw us get into Pitch’s car together, and they are talking about it!”
“Yeah, because people can’t possible get into the same car unless their dating. Its not that bad Hiccup you-” Hiccup cut Jack of, his voice going slightly hysterical.
“Not that bad?! Snotlout called you my boyfriend! This is terrible! We need to be more careful, not be seen together as much and-” Hiccup stopped as he caught sight of Jack’s face, which had gone black at his statement and was not creasing with anger.
“I am your boyfriend, aren’t I?” Jack’s voice was quiet despite the anger on his face.
“Yes pf course you are Jack, but people at school can’t know were together-”
“Because its terrible.” Jack cut Hiccup off, his voice hard.
‘What? No its not-that not what I meant. I just meant that-”
“I know what you meant.”
“Do you? Because my dad works with some of the parents of kids from school. What if-”
“Oh yeah, because so many kids share gossip with their parents and then they go straight to their jobs and tell all their coworkers.” Jack’s voice was loud and mocking. “Look, I threw Snotlout off the trail so don’t worry about it anymore.” Jack’s voice was more normal, though still angry, as he continued.
“Yeah, and he called you a fag Jack! He’s going to start telling people your gay!” It was Hiccup’s turn to raise his voice.
“SO?!” Jack shouted, his anger rising fully now. “What do I care? I AM GAY! And I don’t care if Snotlout or any of his stupid friends think I’m a fag!”
“What about me the huh? What will people think about the guy who suddenly starts spending all his time with the fag?” Hiccup sneered out the last word the same way he’d heard from his father in the past and then started, one hand going up to cover his mouth. Jack’s face fell, his expression flat and emotionless as he turned and picked his book-bag off the ground from where he’d left it.
“Jack where are you going?” Hiccup asked, his voice quiet and slightly frantic.
“To go scout out some dead drops, that way you won’t have to be seen interacting with the fag!” Jack shouted before jerking the door open, stepping through, and slamming it shut behind him.
************************************************
Jack stalked down the street, half growling half talking to himself, his arms flailing angrily as thought about everything that had just been said. This was exactly why he hadn’t wanted to date someone in the closet! Their first date was just barely a week ago and already they were fighting over it. And it wasn’t even that big of a thing either! Not like Hiccup’s father had nearly caught them because Jack did something stupid or Jack wanted Hiccup to go to prom with him or something like that. It had just been Snotlout being a dick-head and trying to get under their skin. Jack though about the way Hiccup had said ‘fag’ and he had to take a deep breath. Jack could only imagine that that was the way Hiccup had always heard the world, probably from his father. That that was the way that Hiccup has terrified of having his father shouting it at him. Because now that Jack had a moment to think back it was pretty clear that Hiccup had been terrified by the whole situation. Jack slowed to stop as his anger started to abate as he thought about how Hiccup must have felt from the moment Snotlout started harassing him, and how he was probably feeling now, and Jack himself felt like a complete ass. He turned back toward Hiccup’s and had to force himself not to run as he backtracked the three block’s had gone before calming down.
When he reached to door he knocked tentatively and when nobody answered knocked a little louder, suddenly worried that Hiccup would just let him stay out here until he got the hint and went away. He wouldn’t really blame him if he did either, Jack wasn’t sure he’d want to see himself at the moment were he in Hiccup’s position.
The door opened to reveal Hiccup standing there, two lines of tears running down his face and his eyes already red. He sniffed as he glanced up at Jack furtively, as though he were scared to look him in the eye. With an incredible force of will Jack made himself wait until he had stepped into the house and closed the door behind himself before reaching out for Hiccup who fell into his arms, his whole body shuddering with mostly silent sobs.
“Oh Hiccup,” Jack whispered quietly, holding the other boy to him protectively and rubbing small circles in the small of his back. “I’m so sorry Hiccup, I’m so so sorry.” He continued, his own voice thick with emotion at this point.
“No I-I-I’m sorry Jack.” Hiccup stammered out. “I’m so sorry I s-said that, I didn’t m-mean it.”
“I know Hic, I know. I didn’t mean to act the way I acted either. I was an ass.”
“Were were both asses.” Hiccup replied, getting some control over his breathing now.
“Fair enough. Both asses who are both sorry for being asses.”
“Very sorry,” Hiccup agreed. Jack smiled and pressed a kiss on the top of Hiccup’s head.
They stood there for several more minutes until Jack gave Hiccup a particularly hard squeeze and said “I have an idea.” Without any other warning he scooped Hiccup up and carried the squawking teen through the house and down the stairs, depositing him gently on a couch. “Lets pick something to watch. Homework can wait for a bit.” Hiccup nodded in agreement and helped Jack pick out one of the Harry Potter movies from where he sat on the couch. Jack put the movie in and sat down on the couch, pulling Hiccup close to him which Hiccup did not object to. With Hiccup’s head lying against his chest and his arms wrapped around the smaller boy Jack could almost forget about everything that had happened, but as the movie came to a close he knew he the couldn’t just leave things.
“So what sort of things were you thinking about changing?”
“What? Oh no Jack, no no I didn’t mean that I-” Hiccup stammered, suddenly panicking.
“Yes you did. You didn’t mean for it to hurt me, but you meant it at least in some way.”
“We don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to,” Hiccup said earnestly, his expression apprehensive.
“What I want is for you to be happy, and if that means going the extra step to keep your father in the dark then I’m willing to do that.” Jack said, hoping he sounded as sincere as he wanted to. He might not be particularly happy with the idea of hiding his relationship with Hiccup but he understood even better now why he needed to, and that was something he was willing to do for Hiccup.
“Well, just a couple ideas I had.” Hiccup said after a moment.
In the end they decided that he and Hiccup would leave school from different exists and take different routs to his house whenever Jack was coming over, and that any time they were being picked up from school it would be away from the main parking lot (something Jack already did anyway). Hiccup also asked Jack to not be as open at school which he agreed to grudgingly. He didn’t want to lie to people, but he could be okay with not really broadcasting himself either. All things said and done it was a pretty reasonable list. Jack’s mind had come up will all sorts of crazy worst case scenarios like Hiccup suggesting one of them pretend to date Astrid or something like that.
That discussion over they reluctantly let go of one another and headed upstairs to start working on homework before Hiccup’s father returned.
“Oh hey, do you think would could plan something for this weekend and invite Astrid along? She’s pointed out that I have kinda been ignoring her since out first date.” Hiccup asked as they were slogging through their English assignment.
“Uh, sure,” Jack said surprised, but liking the idea at once. “I can invite Sandy too, then we can both assuage out guilt and neither of them will feel like a third wheel.”
“Oh that sounds fun, good idea. What do you think we should do?” Hiccup sounded genuinely happy and hearing that tone in his voice after everything that had happened that day brought a smile to Jack’s face.
“Hmmm, how do you feel about zoos?” Jack asked.
“Zoos can be fun, as long as they aren’t one of those ones that just puts animals in little boxes their whole lives.”
“Yeah no screw those places. I mean like a real zoo.”
“I haven’t been to a Zoo in years.”
“The zoo it is then!” Jack grinned and blew a kiss across the room to Hiccup where he sat at his desk as usual.
“I can’t wait.” Hiccup said with a grin, blowing Jack a kiss in return which just made Jack smile brighter.

I'm so glad you're liking it Not a lot of people transition from my Jackrabbit stuff to the HiJack stuff. As for the details, I usually try to think things through step by step and envision them happening like a movie, that's where I get most of the details from.

It was tempting to end it earlier, but it wouldn't have made for very good chapter structure. Plus I didn't want to be *that* mean after being gone for so long!
