First Appearance: Detective Comics #158 (April, 1950)

Story:
Doctor Doom was a jewel smuggler who was captured in Gotham City but managed to escape by hiding inside an ancient Egyptian coffin, which was granted as a souvenir for Batman and Robin for their Batcave. Unaware of Doom's presence inside the coffin, the Dynamic Duo placed the coffin on their hall of trophies and Doom prepared a series of traps using the heroes' trophies. During the final confrontation, Doom used a grenade to attack Batman, but as he used the coffin to hide from the explosion, he locked himself inside with no chance of exit and suffocated to death.

1. When I first heard about the character from SlavalG, the first thing that popped into my mind was of course the Marvel villain. Of course that isn't the case for this guy who only appeared one time.
2. Speaking of which, why does he have that name? When I first read about him, I thought he was another mad scientist. But no. He's s smuggler.
3. The story is lifted straight from the DC Wiki.
