Description
1978 pontiac firebird 400story?
ok.
my cousin was down in toronto visiting for a week. he had been telling everyone about the '76 firebird he bought...a 302 [ chevy motor ] and he was the umpteenth owner of it. he said it needed a little body work and a lot of work under the hood. t'was going to be his winter hobby.
one day he goes over to his friends house - whom he's known since kindergarden - and starts talking about his car to the friends parents...they're like 'oh, really...' and guide him to the garage. under lawn furnature and fertilizer, atop cardbord of course, was a 1978 trans am model sitting on all four. the father was the original owner and the car had been in the garage for 20 years collecting dust [ in '91 the dad pulled it out and ran the engine for 1h then put her back ].
my cousin asked if he'd sell it and the reply was 'yes'. so there i was...today, actually, with 5 other guys pushing and pulling this car out of the garage. under the dust the paint was perfect. NO RUST...well, the rear passenger quarter-panel had a couple holes in it, but it's fixeable [ quarter panels always go first ].
so i snapped a couple photos and made this wall.
enjoy!
***EDIT***
first car was a 1979 with a 301

they're greats cars.
there's one down the street from me at an auto shop just sitting on the lot. the leaf-springs are shot and the mounts are rusted to hell. that's a couple grand right there to fix.
it saddens me greatly.

OMG!
that's like me and my dad! he has a 1970-and-a-half camaro Z28 RS. it's been sitting in our driveway for a while now...collecting notes from people wanting to buy it.
lol, the guy my dad bought it from tracked him down and gave us a call wanting to give us twice for what he bought it for!
...we have yet to restore it as far as your camaro tho...:S
and that's sweet that your uncle has such a fine car in such SWEET condition.
to all car-lovers.

This ... is ... CRAZY. You should have fixed it up without dusting off all the dirt and crap on it. That way when you drive the first time a cloud of dust will blow into the windshields of the people behind you creating a cloud of confusion and possibly death.

d-frag-r In reply to narddude [2004-07-19 01:33:20 +0000 UTC]
yeah really. the dust virtually preserved the paint - it's imaculate underneath.
the dust is like the ashes that the pheonix rose out of. soo cool.

Uhhh, yeah. Ashes.
But really, that's a very cool story (and photos)! Nice manipulation on the right side of the car. Looks like the logo is glowing ... unless it actually does that.

yeah, i plan on it.
omg, sooo much work has to be done on it. all new hoses, new fuel and brake lines [ just to be safe ], possbly move the battery to the trunk [ because it took a special size ], and new springs [ she's been sitting on them for 20 years! ].
but it's nice, the chrome is all good, door hindges need some work; but they always go.
man, i'm going to be visiting my cousin a LOT more now.
and ty for the comment!

the quarter-panels are...roughly the part or the car right above the wheel.
[link]
he bought it for $3000 and his other one, which he's returning, cost him $1700
that's a REALLY good price.

speederase [2004-07-18 04:53:37 +0000 UTC]
WOW...hahahahahaha, brilliant story, mac!!
Just one question...what are quarter-panels? Call me a car dumb-ass, but are those the panels that hold the mud-flaps for the rear wheels?
But that's an awexome hood...I like that emblem!
And boy oh boy, good picture! I really like the fact that it's not cleaned or anything, still coated in dust, makes it more artistic...and the little tagline...I'm sure it will rise again!
How much did he buy it for?
