LAST DRAWING OF 2014!!My first RWBY fanart. Watched the show and loved the second season.
Curious thing about Ruby is that I usually don't care about "cute" or young looking characters, but something in Ruby is appealing to me. Maybe it's cuz she's crazy, loves to shoot/slice stuff or is just plain reckless, who knows.
Gosh, that scythe was a pain to draw

I'd say that what catches people off-guard regarding Ruby is that in spite of her cuteness and all of that there's still a certain degree of... melancholy is not a good word, but it is obvious after a while that there are layers we have not yet seen and there's a sense of something lacking still (mostly her mother, which was in itself quite traumatic for her).
In the end, it ought to be mostly clever writing.

Ruby seems to have that effect o people. It s hard for people to find something not to like about her. I personally like the cute, and the reasons you mentioned, and the fact that I also have an immense fascination with different kinds of weaponry.
