What software are you using, is this SFM, or a full 3D package?

I'm using Garry's Mod, not SFM.

What is the rendering software?

d0ntst0pme In reply to TheBadFaerie [2014-06-07 15:31:56 +0000 UTC]

It's all rendered in-game with the source engine.

are the Magic done with photoshop?
or in-game particles?

The magic is the only thing not made in GMod. I used gimp to make those effects.

I suppose it depends on what you're used to. I'm being told that PS is better in most regards, but I just can work better with gimp, seeing as I have mor experience with that.

I believe you already answered this (and thus I am wasting your time), but how do you usually scenebuild? You told me to stuff random stuff in the background. I tried that and I can't seem to replicate the sheer amount of eye candy that each and every one of your pictures posesses. Could you maybe go into some more detail about that?

After you have placed your camera, you can switch back and forth between your POV and working on the scene.
For example, pick up a Bookshelf or something with the Physgun, and move it around while looking through your camera. That way you can usually see where it looks best from the camera's POV and freeze it in place.
Of course you also need a good camera angle for your scene to look it's best. Looking slightly upward from the ground is something I like to do often.
It's also advised to keep the rule of thirds in mind en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_…

Hmm, I have tried that.Β  But it never looks as clean cut.

You have your r_flashlightdepthres 4096/8192 and r_projected_texture_filter 0.2/0.1 on? Those two are essential for good shadows. They will, however, fuck with your fps a bit (especially the value 8192). And always change the value for r_flashlightdepthres in the main menu and NEVER ingame while playing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vulsegardt In reply to d0ntst0pme [2014-03-31 23:40:26 +0000 UTC]

yeah I have all of those settings up, and plus my Comp is good enough for me to change the flashlightdepthres in game, and I have no issues with lag(unless the atmos addon is active) I think its either me being sloppy or maybe the fov setting on the lamps. What is the best fov setting for the lamps when using them to highlight?

I usually go with 30-40 for the rimlight.
