This sketch is dedicated to the golden retriever that in two days showed me there is more than likely a dog out there that I can capably look after, will fit perfectly into my life and might also heal the last 20 years of grinding hurt.

It was seven very long years ago that I first decided I wanted a dog, and the search has now begun for one. It's taken so long because of huge obstacles. There has not been a day gone by where I have not thought of the journey. Thousands of days are near an end where a new one begins.

Bisto's qualities are typical of the breed. Sociable, outgoing, settled, playful, biddable - but most importantly, wonderfully gentle on the approach, with a knack for finding people in trouble, even if that trouble is extremely well hidden from the world.

If I find a dog half as good as him I will have made an extraordinary success.
